Hello, I recently bought an iphone 2g. Im very happy with it however, the battery life is terrible. I barely get a day out of it from light browsing and playing a couple of apps.
Is there anywhere (apart from apple) where I could get a battery replacement?

Any advice/suggestions are all greatly appreciated.

    James:)

The battery is soldered to the circuit board so you'll need a steady hand and some experience of soldering to replace it. If you google it, there are plenty places to buy one online, but you may better off finding a shop in Ireland that will do it for you.

If you have to solder it then Im not doing it. I need to find a shop then. Does anyone know any shops? Won't that be really expensive though? maybe I could buy the battery off ebay and just ask the shop to install it, that way would be cheaper?

Is your 2g jailbroken? Do you have MMS enabled?

If yes, this may be draining your battery. I had exact same problem, removed mms and I get 3 days from my battery no probs.

Worth a try (not guaranteeing anything)

I know push notifications can drain it too.

    yes its jailbroken.

sorry for been an idiot but what is mms? multimedia messge?

    How do i remove it?:)

Not sure on how to remove it but doing a factory restore of the phone always helps. It'll remove the jailbreak but you'll definitely notice a better battery life.

so its the jailbreak that makes the battery life so bad? If remove the jailbreak though, It won't be unlocked anymore. Then I wont be able to use it at all

    got this off a website
    3. The original iPhone will not support MMS

Unfortunately, users who are still toting the original first-generation iPhone will be left out of the MMS club. The exact reasons for this limitation are unclear, but the bottom line is that MMS support requires an iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS, and there’s no reason to expect that Apple is ever going to introduce this capability to the original iPhone.

I have an original ipohne so how could I have mms enabled:confused:?

There's a hack to add mms but for me it drained the battery too much so I removed.

    To remove

    go into Cydia
    select Manage
    select Packages
here you will see a list of apps installed

I'm pretty sure it's called enablemms2g or soemthing like that

remove it, reboot and hopefully your battery life will improve

Btw It's nots jailbreak that drains the battery, it's the mms app (from my experience)

Hmm it's not there. There's just a lot of winterboard themes and something called sinful iPhone repo

    Hmm indeed

do you actally have mms (media messaging)?

If it's not there then I don't know

sinful repository is good, you can leave that there

^I went into cydia, manage, packages and there is no mms app there at all.

If you create a new message and there's a camera button you have mms.

If you don't have then I don't know?

I have a 2g and the battery is great.

I'm no expert but changing the battery seems a bit extreme.

There's a few settings you could turn off when not using that would help.

    Eg.

    Wifi, edge, location,

    good luck

    Good luck

I went to create a new messenge and there was nothing there to suggest I could add video/picture. I have all push notifications, location stuff etc all turned off. I've deleted a few things such as a video recordor app.

I know it may seem extreme but after say 3/4 years of use. Doesn't the battery life deteriorate?

Thanks for all your help btw
