Hi Lads, am after trading in one of my rifles for a sako quad. Just waiting on license to be changed over, im wondering what sort of accuracy are they capable of in the 22 mag, I hear great things about the 17 in this rifle. And what was best round you found through it. Thanks

Ha ha ah its more a case of wanting a cheap and accurate 100-150yard plinker Tack. The 22 magnum was first rifle i used when i was 19, friend of mine had one in a cz and it was great fun and very accurate and 7 years later i still have the rifle bug ha

Had the .22lr barrel, now have the HMR barrel. The .22lr was very accurate. The HMR is giving me some issues but I may have them beat. The stock is too short for a tall lad.

Jaysus yer younger than me and you have waaaaaaaaaay more spent on rifles than me, Is your place of work still hiring ;)

I can't find the yokie for charging my deben battery pack or I'd be out lamping, dark enough to shoot @10 these evenings :( I'm back on night work soon so I could get back into lamping.

do you have a .17 barrel on the quad already?
Would you go to the bother of another barrel licence?

unless you have an understanding fo!

I've got a spare charger with eye o connections for a battery with o terminals. I don't know the right name for them! You can have a loan if it's any good to you.

John when you say the hmr is giving you issues are you shooting it with a mod on, reason i ask is had a cz 17 hmr before and for whatever reason it shot better without mod and with about 10 fouling rounds gone through it after good clean then just use pull through after every 5 rounds after that. How do you find the trigger how far down can you get it?

Tack dont have hmr barrel for quad its comin as a 22 mag may get a 22 lilja barrel further down the road, for now just goin to have fun with the 22 mag. Work nights myself and actually find doin some calling when it just gettin bright in morning very productive. Travel home from work from birr in early hours in morn its great see loads of wildlife out from fine stags to mink/fox

I adjusted the trigger down as far as it was safe to do so. One thing to be very careful about doing that job is the possibility of a slam fire. I had it adjusted down, and knocked it about pretty good, at different angles. Fella came in and sat on the couch, put the butt between his legs with the muzzle pointing straight up (unloaded) and closed the bolt, and the damn thing fired. So really put it through the motions in all conceivable angles and situations before you load it. I put a bit of thread locking compound (I think, has a slight blue tinge to it) then on the adjustment screw, I sourced a different screw for the adjustment to see just how low it'd go. I would still like it lower to be honest but that would require a different trigger unit and I can't afford it at the moment.

I believe the problem on my HMR to be related to the stock. It doesn't fit me very well, and there's been an issue with this rifle since I stored it over one summer and the bolt became very stiff. I am half wondering if it's not become warped in some way. Put on my old Beartooth comb raising kit to get a nice scope eye level, and I'll shoot it in the morning to see what she's doing.

Yes I'm shooting with a SAK, but I've also tried it without the mod. Mind you, there does seem to be a difference in colour where the bullet exits the mod. 3/4 of the hole is grey and 1/4 black. Perhaps bullet clipping it, perhaps it's been slightly marked in some other way. I asked for a factory threaded barrel when I purchased it, I didn't get one. I knew it wasn't one when I got it in the shop, but thanks to our licensing system I didn't want the wait to get a REAL factory threaded one. Spoke to Fergal White today and he's going to look at it for me.

All that said. I was very happy with the .22lr and how I shot with it, sub half inch at 50 yards, sub inch at 100, other people can probably do far better but this stock doesn't fit me the best and I'm not the best shot in the first place, so I wasn't complaining (except about ricochets). The HMR will come right too :)

Thanks John, ill have look at trigger when i get paperwork back. Regarding the hmr barrel its possible whoever threaded it previously did it off centre and thats why bullet is clipping mod on way out.
Fergal wouldnt be long sorting it out anyway ive seen all he goes to when setting up a barrel for threading. Hes very meticulous and thorough when dialing it in, maybe a recrown would be an option if he has to rethread it would only add to the accuracy.

Well I'm not saying for sure the bullet IS clipping the mod, just that there is a partial discoloration where the bullet exits the mod. He's going to have a look to see if it's lining up properly or not and we'll try another mod on it too.

I'll be posting about crowns on Monday ;)
