DOE testing and classic commercials

Mate of mine is looking for an ex-military 109 Land Rover and most I'm finding are 1980-84. I know that the rules have changed with cars that anything post Jan 1980 will always need an NCT even if eventually re-registered as vintage.

I can't find anything despite loads of searching as to whether the same applies to DOE tests and vintage commercials. Any ideas?

I don't think any 'commercial vehicle' is exempt from testing.

Oldest I have ever tested was about 25 years old or there abouts.

There is some easier standards in some parts of the test for older vehicles but off the top of my head I can't think of them. Emissions is one but not sure how old it has to be for that.

I know they can only test what applied at the time the vehicle was built.

I read somewhere else that the RSA were going to change the wording on the website but it still only mentions NCT for post 1980 vehicles. The same website states that for commercial vehicles a DOE is required for the life of the vehicle but no mention of it's re-registered as vintage and no longer used commercially. There's was no mention of needing a DOE on my 101 when I registered it but the VRO office were pretty clueless anyway!

Good unmolested Ex-military series Land Rovers are hard to come by, having to DOE it wouldn't worry me but the guy I'm trying to find one for doesn't want the bother so wants pre 1980 :(
