my rights with hotel booking?

    Anyone know where I stand.... I booked a hotel room for 1 night. The email confirmation said I could check in between 2pm and 8pm. During the day I had several phonecalls to tell me times the desk would be unattended and so I could not check in. On the last call I was told she would be back at 5:15 so I said Id be there after that. I then received another call at 5:30pm from a very angry receptionist saying that I hadnt arrived on time and so my room had been cancelled.When I said I was on my way and would be there asap she snapped that it wasnt good enough and I wasnt having the room back. She said she would refund my card (which hasnt showed on my statement yet but Im sure it will) so I had to walk to another hotel and pay for another room. What are my rights here? Who should I report this to? I know that if it was the other way around and I had cancelled at 5:30pm I would have lost the full amount but what happens when they cancelled?

    if you ended up staying in a hotel that was more expensive than the original hotel, then you could claim for the difference as it sounds like they broke your contract. you could also take it up with your credit card company as i believe that your contract is technically wih them.

    Personally, i would just talk to the hotel manager, make a complaint and leave it at that. sounds like a right mickey mouse hotel though so you may have dodged a bullet there.
