GAA crowd celebrations

Just watched this video of Hill 16 going absolutely mad when they scored against Cork:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9xVcFnqR7A

and it got me thinking ... what GAA scores down through the years evoked the same kind of reaction from supporters?

Another one I can think of was when Clare scored a goal late on to win their first All Ireland in '95 and the Clare supporters were euphoric.

    Any others?

Cork supporters when they went a point up last Sunday against KK. Seriously!

I'd say scores to level matches in the dying seconds. From personal experience, Martin Comerford's goal against Tipp in last year's hurling final caused every single KK fan to go absolutely mental. Takes a lot for that to happen.

Hill 16 when Eoghan O'Gara burst the back of the Tyrone net last Saturday week, never experienced an atmosphere like it!

Yes was behind the town goal for that one - sweet. As for the pitch invasion after the game!

Graham Geraghty's last minute goal against Louth in Navan in 02 was pretty nuts. Also Foleys goal against Dublin in 91 and Ollie Murphy against Westmeath in 01

I was at oxegen and didn't see it but I'm presuming Tony Browne's equalising goal in the Munster final v Cork this year conjured up a noise so loud we could hear it in Punchestown! :p

I was at an All-Ireland semi between Kilkenny & Clare in 1999 I think.

The Clare team were still highly regarded with all their great names playing and KK were after losing an All-Ireland to Offaly and were not the hot property they are today.

Early in the game KK got a goal and a roar went up as you'd expect. The game went on and was extremely close and tense, but towards the end with the scores very tight a high ball came in and up went DJ's paw in the middle of a forest of hands and hurls. He grabbed it and was gone like a shot and even as he bore down on the goals there was just something different about the crowd. He buried it and the roar was something I'll never forget.

It was so different to their first goal. I know the goal was the clinching score, but I really believe that because it was DJ who scored it, it made it extra special and the KK people went completely mental and depite my then (and ongoing) dislike for KK in general I could only sit back and enjoy the moment of genius and the deserved ecstasy in generated.

John Hayes lovely taken last minute penalty to draw things up with Kerry in the semi final in 2008, Cork were 7 points down 4 minutes beforehand, people were running back into the stadium.

Easy, Brian Murphy's goal against Meath in 98, that was at a time when Croke Park had an unbeatable atmosphere.

Seamus Darby's goal against Kerry in the 1982 final. I was sitting on a step in the upper Cusack, and I jumped up into the air with delight. Thousands did. :)

I was behind the opposite goal and most of the Roscommon supproters were contemplating getting out before the crowd when we saw the goal. Never to be forgotten by anyone that was there, that's for sure! Ger Heneghan winning the final free of the game and a sense of 'have we won it..?' that began to wash over McHale Park and then Karl Mannion kick to no one in particular to end the game caused a huge wave of emotion to spread across the stadium in this year's Connacht final, especially given everything in the lead up to the match wrote us off as if we were a team of amputees palying the Harlem Globetrotters!

To continue on the Roscommon train, I always reget not being at the 2006 Minor final replay because the scene after the final whistle was unbeliebable on television and I'm sure it was unimaginably better in person. For a minor final to command such a huge crowd (mostly Roscommon supporters) and to bridge over hlaf a century gap made it something unique.

The non-Roscommon one that stands out was Galway winning the 1998 All-Ireland football final. It was unique in that the whole of Connacht felt pride in Galway's victory as a validation of the (always, it seems) derided standard of Connacht football. Most Connacht supporters are banded together by it and when we'ren ot playing each other like to see the other Connacht teams do well. The crowd at that game knew the significance of the moment and celebrated appropriately!

Supposedly Kevin Foley's goal made the Canal End quake. Supposedly my auld fella said he was sure it was gonna crumble. Unfortunately none of the TV pictures showed it. I'd say it was amazing.

As Buckwheat said, Geraghty's goal against Louth was amazing. As was Ollie Murphy's last minute goal against Westmeath the year before.

Probably the biggest celebrations due to a miss was when Dessie Dolan missed that sitter of a free in the last minute of the Westmeath - Meath game in 2003 :pac:

yes those are the 3 that stick out in my mind as a rossie; i was lucky to be at all three, i was also there when roscommon won connaught in 1990 and 91 but the sense of euphoria that accompanied the connaught titles wins of 2001/10 and the minor final of 2006 was different level completely. all three were so different though, the minor final we were head and shoulders above kerry that day and won easily in the end, the last 5 mins was exhibition stuff but still winning an A-I and becoming the first county to beat kerry in a final at every level is something special

2001 we had it won and then nestor scored that goal 3 minutes into injury time and i wanted the ground to open up, ah f**k it they have beaten us again, and then lohan scored his goal 5 mins into injury time and everyone went mental, i can't even remember but somehow i found myself out on the field and ran into my brother who was over on the stand side of the ground, good times :D i cannot imagine what would happen if roscommon won the senior, croke park could put plans a, b, c and d in place wouldn't make a difference

as for non-rossie celebrations, Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh i think it was said, in all his time following gaa, the outpouring of emotion he witnessed in hyde park in 1994 when leitrim won the connaught was unmatched

As someone who is not from meath (from Louth) these celebrations annoy me to some degree :p

    <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/4cliUR2lNks?fs

My dad is from Kildare so we went to see the Kildare vs. Meath match in Croke park. Some buzz at the game, the Kildare fans on Hill 16 were going wild by the end of the match, standing in the rain, t- shirts off swinging them over thier heads to get the helicopter effect, great buzz :)

The atmosphere on the hill against Meath was amazing! I have never seen Kildare fans go crazy like that in a long time... It was brilliant! Ill never forget it. So hard to put into words how Kildare fans felt at the final whistle. It meant the world to us! It was terrific and magical just an absolute sight for sore eyes!! If that was the quarter final celebrations please god let us get by Down because it would just be.... EPIC!! The county would go mental!

I think part of the problem now is the misinformation from Croke Park as to why they need people off the pitch. The reasoning changes all the time. I think this is a last rebellion from members against the changes taking place in the organisation where games are becoming a form of entertainment for many, rather than a passionate quest to win big games.

The second part of that paragraph was about the 2010 final - Ger Heneghan and Karl Mannion weren't even on the panel in 2001!

Do you mean pictch invasions? after the louth match there seems to be a big push in preventing pitch invasions after matches for health and saftey reasons and for fear of people getting trampled (not sure if any of ye saw that ridiculous aver the top video about pictch invasions on the big screen in croke park) but tbh i just figured it was more to do with the escourt the ref in the louth vs meath leinster final had to get off the pitch rather than anything else.

As well as that though, considering the pitch at croke park is already really slippy at the best of times, am sure they not up for having it wrecked by 40, 000 charging fans at the end of each match.

All I know is Sean Kavanagh looked like the GAA kidnapped his mother and forced him to record his message.

Chalk it down. It went fair mad alright. I'll never forget the heat on the Terrace that day. They were great days for hurling. Here it is

This is my favourite crowd reaction that I've seen. Killinane end went f**kin mental:

Kerry supporters soon followed suit though on the town end. The dubs were still singing

    Some of My favs anyway

It was very similiar to Nicky Englishs goal V Antrim 1989 All Ireland Final. The crowd swarmed the field.

Last ever pitch invasion next Sunday.

Looking forward to it after Dubs by five.

Why would you invade the pitch after a semi final win??

Can't imagine too many Dubs running on if we win.
    Same goes for Cork.

Not really the done thing in semi finals.

Eamon McEnaney's last minute free from another townland against Kerry in 1985 or Paul Finlay's Hail Mary v Meath in the Div 2 final in 2005. It was a big deal at the time!!!
Other than Monaghan, Nicky Englishs' "soccer" goal v cork in 87. It looked lime it was the winning score but ended up as a draw although Tipp did won the replay.

that division 2 final was the first time i ever heard of plan b in croker, much as i was annoyed at losing we were actually pissing ourselves laughing at the stewards trying to keep the monaghan fans off the pitch

Dublin v Kerry in 2001 on a sunny day in Thurles would have to be one of them:
