Upgrading a Fender Jag Stang

I have been meaning to update my Fender Jag Stang (the Kurt Cobain designed guitar) for some time now and since it needs a repair to the head nut I'm going to ask for a replacement to the pick ups and bridge.

The pick ups are poor and cheap (as Kurt requested) and the Bridge has a whammy which doesn't keep the strings in tune if you use it.

Can anyone recommend me some replacements as I'm not a big guitar tech though I've been playing years. Never had friends who played who you would geek out with about parts and pedals so I'm in the dark sometimes with what is the best.

I'm not looking to spend a fortune but if I'm gonna do it I don't need to be too cheap either.

Here's a pic of my guitar.

First of all when you mention replacing the pickups, how much exactly would you plan on spending? I've always been a fan of bareknuckle pickups but they are definatly on the more expensive side of things but they are quality pups and the owner Tim is very easy to deal with!

As for the bridge, i'm not sure what you can do with that as I don't have any experience with the type bridge found on these guitars, i've heard they can be awful though so it could be best to ask the guitar tech about his opinions on them as they might have dealt with similar problems over the years.

I suppose pick up wise I'm gonna look to get ones that would match the sound of a Jaguar. I couldn't give you a price off the top of my head, I suppose I'd have to be confronted with one and decide if it's worth it or not.

The bridge I'll just ask in shop about what can be done.

A useful site for anyone looking to mod a Jaguar, Mustang or Jagstang

Hope fully those articles or the forum give you a few good ideas.

Also the Jaguar has a singlecoil in the bridge so you're probably going to have to get whatever humbucker you choose as a replacement coil-tapped to get a remotely Jaguar-like sound (sorry if that seemed glaringly obvious)

    :pac:
