You`ll be guaranteed your a contract till the end of you apprenticeship rare in this climate and probably a very good chance of a job when your qualified even rarer in any climate .. The training will be specialised in the sense that it will be useless house bashing or working on a building site .. I would gather it would be mostly maintenance because these companies bring in contractors for major work your job would be mostly supervision as you would be more familiar with the cables and layout of your plant or area..

I did one with a similar company as an apprentice your not allowed do much and it is quiet boring because your not insured work on your own. You`ll go into fas phase 2 where the other apprentices will know alot more because they will be working with similar gear in houses or on building sites. You will catch up in a few months and it is relatively easy especially if your good at maths..

I left the similar company because I didn't intend staying in it for life and I wasnt gaining the experience I needed to survive in the private sector. I got the experience and have had a lot of fun on the Dundrum town center/ Intel/Gas rig in wales/Wind farms in Holland and a lot of other sites the work is a lot harder the pay is a little better and the work comes in drips and drabs bit I`d still rather that than working in the same plant or area for the past 10 years..

With 2 jobs going id forget about that company as they are only advertising it as they have to. The positions I would gather are already filled with people with contacts. The aptitude test and interview would be good experience tho ..

Its not a career to get into unless you plan on staying in that company or immigrating to another country when your qualified because there's like 10000 sparks in this country and 2 jobs on jobs.ie atm and for the last 3 years ..

Dont get me wrong its better than doing nothing and most careers these days are unpredictable you might get lucky but once you qualified and out on your own employers look for at least 2 years experience after qualification these 2 years are hard to get ..

    Good luck:)

Block releases will be down to fas its a big company so they wont hold you back once you get a place some contractors do.

Id say unless your a complete waster you'll be kept as they cannot bring in sparks from a different area into their specialised field

Salary if you work the overtime it should be better than most contractors as you tend to get a little spoilt filling out time sheets rather than clocking in as with contractors although they will be roughly the same as the fas rates give or take a little depending on you phase 1,3,7 on the job

Conditions I would say spoilt compared to contractors, heavily safety orientated but mostly well looked after seen as they dont get many they tend to appreciate them more not like big contractors where there's loads and you bet breakfast rolls thrown at you because you forget to hold the egg on some old bastards roll ha
