    Hi,

I am thinking of buying the iPhone 4 from Apple's online store.

I am wondering if anybody here bought it direct from Apple and got faster than the 3 week week delivery period that the the store states?

    Cheers

Bought mine the morning they went on sale. You won't get any faster than 3 weeks. Mine is due to be shipped on the 20th of this month, and so far it hasn't changed. You could always chance your arm going into an Apple authorised reseller, but they probably won't have any. Otherwise you could buy directly from your network, if you're on o2, Vodafone or Three that is.

I was going to stick with O2 but it would be sim locked and I am planning on going abroad soon and would prefer to have a phone where I can change the sim when not in Ireland.

    Jafin,

When I went to New Zealand in 2007, I had to change the sim in my phone because my O2 sim didn't work there.

Has this changed? If I buy an iPhone 4 on O2 Prepay can I use it anywhere ion the world?

    Cheers

No, it will be locked to whatever network you buy it from. You can buy directly from Apple though and it will be factory unlocked. Alternatively if you buy it from a network, you can jailbreak the iPhone and then unlock it yourself in a few minutes, but sometimes it can destabilise the phone and make it slower and more prone to crashing.

    Jafin,

Thanks, but when I say "anywhere in the world" I mean can I use the O2 iPhone 4 in all countries without needing to change the sim?

In 2007 I had to change the sim in New Zealand because the O2 sim would not work.

Are things different now? Do I need to change networks when in America or New Zealand?

Or will an O2 sim work everywhere now?

    Cheers.

I was selling a Apple sim free on adverts for the last few days. You really should keep your eye out. Get it immediately for less than Apple charging

Lose the attitude man, simply pointing out you could save a few quid keeping your eye on adverts. Saves the 3 week delivery time and you have all the warranty etc as if you had bought from Apple.ie. If your not looking for advice, don't ask for it.

there was no attitude. can you explain how you were able to detect "emotion" across the internet from a simple "thank you"?

I simply wrote "no thank you" to your suggestion, because not to respond would be ignorant.

you took the time to post and I was only only showing my gratitude.

Question, does your card get charged immediately for the order? Or in 3 weeks when it ships?

I ordered on Sunday, money is still on my card. It was clearing on Monday, but is still there?? I paid by visa debit, if that makes a difference.

General internet shopping knowledge would assume payment made immediately.

I've ordered online from Apple directly numerous times - they have never charged me until they actually ship the product (Amazon does the same). This is with a credit card though - from what quite a few people have posted here, it seems you do get charged sooner with debit cards like Laser or Visa debit.

Ok thanks, just contemplating a purchase and it would help if the money was withdrawn in three weeks or so! ;)

I was talking to a girl in compu B store in cork this week and they said they would be selling the Iphone 4 only on the 3 network. But they don't know when that will be.

So it looks like the only option for a sim free Iphone is getting it directly from apple. Pity about the 3 weeks wait though. Will be orderign mine next week.
