    Hi,

My GP has referred me to inpatient treatment for an eating disorder in St Pats but i do not have any health insurance. how does it work in that respect? what will happen?
i know it's a private clinic but my GP says there are ways to get in...i'm not sure.

she sent a letter to the clinic and i am waiting on an assessment date with a psychiatrist but it's been two weeks and i've heard nothing.

i'm so worried, i'm only 22, havent been able to go to work cos i keep getting anxiety attacks.
my parents are away on holidays so it's difficult to talk to them.

    thanks a million

    Phone St Pats. They'll know.
Also Bodywhys might have some information on their website.
St Vincents has provides inpatient and out patient therapy for eating disorders.

    Hey,
I was inpatient in EDP in pats for some time a couple of years ago. luckily i had health insurance but they only cover a certain amount of time 180days or something.

i was runnning out of time and had a look at other options for payment. it is very expensive to pay privately. As far as I know you can contact your local health service officer and they can assess you, and if they feel you need the treatment they have funds available to cover your treatment. so possibly contact your local health office. or maybe your local citizens advice centre.

good luck with the treatment, its so hard to be having to deal with all this insurance/financial aspect of getting treatment, it is the last thing you need at the moment. i wish you the best in your recovery:)

Did you speak to your GP about it? Does he know you have no health insurance? He could refer you somewhere else, to a public facility somewhere?

It is VERY expensive.. I'm not really sure but I think I remember it being something like €250 a day (probably gone up with everything else!) - and you wouldn't be in and out in a week!

Ring the accounts dept in St. Pats, they could tell you your options. 01-2493200.

    hi OP here,

i spoke with Citizens advice today and they said it was possible to have HSE fund it but in all honestly it's unlikely.

I'll call St. Pats tomorrow- thanks a million for the number.

thanks everyone for your replies, i find them really encouraging.

i have such a love/hate relationship with it- i'm so up in the air at the moment.

St Vincents have public inpatient programmes...but only 3 beds (there are an estimated 200,000+ people in Ireland with eating disorders)

i'll let you all know how i get on tomorrow.

    thanks again
