    Guys,

Bit of advice required. I've been offered an unused Sky+ box by a friend who is out of contract.

I previously didn't get a Sky+ box installed as I only have a single LNB and cable in to my house and couldn't put one along the skirting board with the kids.

Is there any benefit to me replacing my old sky box with the sky+ one ? i.e I presume I can use it as a normal sky box and am wondering if I can watch and record the same channel at the same time as I'm sure I can't watch one and record another.

    Thanks in advance.

You'll need to call Sky to get your card paired to the Sky+ Box but yes you will be able to watch and record the same channel as well as watch a previously recorded prog while recording another.(and pause, rewind the prog you are watching) To get the full functionality though, it would be well worth getting the addtional cabling.

Great exact details in an answer I was looking for thanks !

The extra cabling isn't an option at the moment but adding a bit of extra functionality will be great :D

Get your hands on one of these http://satellite.ie/acatalog/LNB_Quad__for_Sky_Minidish.html#aQUAD and an extra cable to fully utilise the Sky+ box.Tony there at Satellite.ie should be able to sort you out.

Don't you need to pay Sky and extra €15 per month for the + facility?

Not any more. That was only when Sky+ was launched.
Sky+ now is deemed to part of the most basic Sky package.

There are lots of better ways to run cables rather than "along the skirting board".
I ran the extra cables in myself before I got Sky+ in as I've seen the "quality" of their workmanship.
I have 2 young kids and Sky+ has opened up a lot of programmes to myself and the missus, rather than the usual Handy Manny/Fireman Sam combination:D
