Is anyone on the unlimited plan? Just wonder is anyone downloading huge amounts without consequences? Or has anyone paid the extra for P2P and skype?

I'm considering getting one, i'm currently on O2 but out of contract and seen mobile is my only option, i'd pay the €45 if i could download 60gb+ per month.

Fair use applies, and I believe it's 10GB, so this gives you nothing more, but at a higher price. Avoid.

Cheers jor el, i know Unlimited means nothing, but just wondering if anyone has it or has paid the extra €20 and is getting good download amounts.
Anyone have any actual experience? Good (or more likey bad)?

They charge for excess traffic or traffic they don't like (VOIP or P2P). Excess charges may be as high as €820 a gigabyte.

ALL Mobile operators charge €90 to €900 per gigabyte for traffic outside of your T&C.

But seen they offer the €20 extra to use VOIP and P2P, it must give some allowance extra. Anyway hopefully someone will reply with their experiences.

There was a thread here a week or so ago, but I didn't see anything positive about it. Mostly it was complaints that there are more restrictions on it than regular Vodafone 3G. I see no reason why anyone would chose this.

Didn't Three get in trouble for selling "Unlimited" but it was only 10GB, if they did it would be hard to see Vodafone doing the same thing.

I searched vodafone's website for ages and nowhere did I find a fair usage policy for their unlimited plan. It does however state that voip is not permitted on the plan.

In the T&C they state they will remove the service if they feel you are abusing it or using too much bandwidth that it effects other customers. So although they dont say a specific amount, they leave they door open to cutting you off at anytime.

I'd say if you spent the €25 for "unlimited", then bought the €20 add-on for using P2P and VOIP, and they still cut you off, you would have a good case for the ombudsman, but with the €25 "unlimited", the T&C cover them if they do cut you off.

I am on unlimited plan, and I downloaded more than 10GB and wasn't charged for anything.
From what guys on vodafone forum said they will never charge you extra (although someone said that they slowed down his connection).
Skype / VoIP will NOT work, in order to get this working you need to buy extra package for 20 a month (that basically removes their restrictions since they are filtering that traffic), or use VPN (if you access to some VPN server), I use VPN to my work and suddenly skype works just fine...

Have you ever gone WELL over the 10gb mark?

Sorry guys, I confused unlimited data tariff with unlimited broadband. I am on unlimited broadband and there is no 10GB cap on it... (it is on unlimited data tariff though)

We know there isn't a 10gb cap, i'm just wondering how much have you been downloading.
I'm asking to see what people are actually getting to download without any consequence, i suspect if you were downloading 30gb+ they would cut your speed to next to nothing.

    Terms and conditions:
    Vodafone Unlimited Data

The following terms and conditions of the Vodafone Unlimited Data Tariff are in addition to and form part of the general terms and conditions of the Vodafone Ireland Limited ("Vodafone") mobile telecommunications service and of the Vodafone Mobile Connect Card/Data Services. In the event of any conflict the terms and conditions below shall prevail. The Vodafone Unlimited Data Tariff is only available to mobile data customers of Vodafone ("Customers") and allows Customers unlimited data download (subject to these terms and conditions) via their mobile phone account.

    1. Existing Customers on Mobile Connect Card can migrate to the Unlimited Data tariff by contacting their account manager, phoning the business helpdesk on 1907 or calling into a Vodafone Retail store or accredited agent.
    2. Vodafone Unlimited Data Tariff shall be made available to the Customer from the next bill day following sign up.
    3. Vodafone operates a Fair Usage Policy. It is important to Vodafone that all eligible Customers are able to access our services. Accordingly, we have devised a fair use policy which applies to this Service. Vodafone may rely on this fair use policy where your usage of the Service is excessive or unreasonable as detailed in this paragraph. Vodafone has developed a threshold for the Service and the related tariffs by reference to average customer profiles and estimated customer usage of the Service (particularly the estimated volume and length of free calls likely to be made by users) (Threshold). The Threshold is regularly reviewed against average customer usage and is currently set at 10GB per billing period. If, at the absolute discretion of Vodafone, Vodafone is of the opinion, that your usage of the Service materially exceeds the Threshold over any month, Vodafone may contact you to advise you that your usage exceeds its fair use policy. If the excessive usage continues to exceed the threshold after receipt of a request to desist from or alter the nature of such usage, Vodafone reserves the right to charge you for the excessive element of your usage at your price plan's standard rate or to suspend, at its absolute discretion, modify or restrict use of the Service or to withdraw access to the Service.
Vodafone reserves the right to withdraw the Vodafone Unlimited Data Tariff generally or from any particular Customer at any time and to vary or amend any element of the Vodafone Unlimited Data Tariff at any time without further notice. These terms and conditions may be varied or amended by Vodafone for any valid commercial technical or operational reason.
    4. Data Roaming is excluded from the Vodafone Unlimited Data Tariff.

10GB is expected as average usage. Key part bolded, legal technicality underlined.

To summerise, 10gb go over it vodafone may contact you or they may just disconnect / charge you. (probably charge).

There is a cap of 10G. Regularly break it and you are likely charged or disconnected.

While it's in theory possible to have QOS on 3G/HSPA, no-one implements it, so customers either get charged or disconnected.

Charges vary by provider and data type from about €150 to €820 per Gigabyte. all the operators are fond of quoting cents per Mbyte. x1000 to get Gigabytes.

Think THIS is what you were looking for:
Vodafone Unlimited Mobile Broadband Terms and Conditions (post 20/5/10)

The following terms and conditions apply to use of the Vodafone Unlimited Mobile Broadband service and are in addition to and form part of the general customer terms and conditions of the Vodafone Ireland Limited ("Vodafone") that relate to the use of Vodafone mobile telecommunications services and, in particular, use of the Vodafone mobile connect card/data services. In the event of any conflict between these terms and conditions and the terms and conditions set out above these terms and conditions shall prevail in respect of the Vodafone Unlimited Mobile Broadband Service.
Customers should note that the Vodafone Unlimited Mobile Broadband Tariff is only available to mobile data customers of Vodafone Ireland ("Customers") and allows Customers data usage services (subject to these terms and conditions) via their mobile phone account.
    1. Existing Customers on Mobile Connect Card or the Unlimited Data tariff can migrate to the Vodafone Mobile Broadband tariff by contacting their account manager, phoning the business helpdesk on 1907 or calling into a Vodafone Retail store or accredited agent.
    2. Vodafone Unlimited Mobile Broadband Tariff shall be made available to the Customer from the next bill day following sign up.
    3. Vodafone reserves the right to take such action as it considers reasonably necessary, including (but not limited to) suspending or terminating access to the Vodafone Unlimited Mobile Broadband service where Vodafone (as it in its sole discretion shall determine) considers that:
    • such action is in the Customer's best interests;
    • the Customer represents a credit risk to Vodafone;
    • a Customer's use of the service is or is potentially:
      • fraudulent or illegal; or
      • adversely affecting the Vodafone Network or other Vodafone customers' ability to use or access other Vodafone services provided using the Vodafone Network.
    1. Vodafone reserves the right to control excessive data users on the Vodafone Unlimited Mobile Broadband Tariff without further notice to such Customers.
    2. Vodafone reserves the right to withdraw the Vodafone Unlimited Mobile Broadband Tariff generally or from any particular Customer at any time and to vary or amend any element of the Vodafone Unlimited Mobile Broadband Tariff at any time without further notice. These terms and conditions may be varied or amended by Vodafone for any valid commercial technical or operational reason.
    3. Calling over the internet (VoIP - Voice over Internet Protocol) and data sharing (Peer to Peer) is not supported by the Vodafone's Unlimited Mobile Broadband Tariff. If you want to use such services you should purchase the tailored add-on in this regard.
    4. A Customer can only use Office, ISP and HS Access Point Names (APN’s) when using the Vodafone Unlimited Mobile Broadband Tariff. The use of the Vodafone Unlimited Mobile Tariff through any other APN’s (including but not limited to WAP or Blackberry) will incur additional out of bundle charges (€1 per Mb).
    5. Data Roaming is excluded from the Vodafone Unlimited Mobile Broadband Tariff.
    6. The same return policy applies for new and 'As New' Modems.
    7. If for any reason you wish to return your Vodafone Unlimited Mobile Broadband modem to the store, you can do so within 7 days and receive a full refund. You will also receive a full refund of your first month's Vodafone Unlimited Mobile Broadband payment and no termination charges will apply. Just remember that, in order to avail of this returns policy, the modem must not be faulty due to damage caused to it whilst in your possession and must be returned complete with proof of purchase, packaging, cables, software CD and user guide.

The Unlimited Data Tariff is YEARS old back when pcmcia cards were used for mobile broadband... hence the 10gb cap (back when the usual cap was 5gb) - the Unlimited Broadband is the new tariff people are talking about...

How come darren from vodafone says the cap is 100GB on their unlimited mobile service then :confused::confused: they should state if its 10 or 100GB because its confusing people tbh..:p

Like i said, the old data tariff was 10gb cap - but the new one isn't to my knowledge... (there's no way they'd have a 10gb limit on the regular tariff AND the unlimited one!!)

The Cap on mobile is the only way to control contention. A 100G cap would doom everyone to less than 0.5Mbps speed.

Any chance they would review the times you download, i.e. if your downloading large file during the day or evening you'll be penalised, but if your only doing it in the middle of the night, they might let it go?

I'm very tempted to go for this package, the Vodafone transmitter is at the end of my road, i'm in the middle of the country with a small population, i'm guessing the speed will be good (i'm with o2 at the moment, speed is very good and transmitter is miles away). Might get it tomorrow and test it out.

Went into the VF shop today, the guy said the transmitter down the bottom of my road is a 2.5g transmitter, so not worth even trying.
He did say that you could expect to get 40gb down without consequences, but that its in no way definite.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,417 ✭✭✭✭watty

    Vodafone don't have EDGE (2.5G). Only 2G and/or 3G.

Get it in writing and that you can do it every month.

Also if people sign up and do that per month the service will be rubbish. No Mobile network can support that without the average speed going to hell.

Not a chance in hell i would guess:D, 40gb was mentioned, but only anecdotally.
