Am looking for good psychotherapy training courses.

I have done a fair bit of research, considering UL next year and DCU.

Any ideas people?? All info appreciated.

I am interested in eventually working with adolescents and adults.

How might I train in both???:p

    Hi Louloubella,

I can highly recommend the MA in Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy in UL. It has the right mix of theory and experiential work which is invaluable when it comes to client work.

I've heard good reports about the course in DCU also. I see that it is now a 4 years MA also. This is coming in line with the ECP which will be important for the statuatory regulation.

Both courses are for working with adults. If you wish to specialise in working with adolescents I'm afraid it will involve further training.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi,

I'm currently studying a BA Social Care Practice, but I'm not looking to be a social care worker when I qualify. I'm really interested in becoming a psychotherapist. I'm wondering how do I become a psychotherapist after I do my 4 years. Do I do courses and what ones do I do?

As much information as possible would be great. Thanks :

Hello Galvino, have you checked out the stickied threads at the top of the psychology forum, especially this one? You can also do a search of the forum, there is a lot of information about courses. But keep an eye on dates of posts! Courses can change a lot over the years. Good luck!

I've checked but most of them are saying what courses to do startin from scratch if your not in a course. But I want to know what courses do I have to do AFTER I finish my 4 years in social care practice. Or does anyone know can I transfer in to a course that I should be doing in order to do psychotherapy. Also seen that work experience helps so what exact jobs would help with tho experience? My current job is a care assistant so does that help as experience as I deal with elderly people with disabilities. Thank in advance.

Unless your social care course had substantial psychotherapy modules, you would be starting psychotherapy from scratch AFTER you complete your course.

Some psychotherapy courses are post-graduate, so that you will need a degree before beginning the course.

Yeah In my 4th year we have a module called counselling and psychotherapy. And we do psychology every year and then we can choose a elective on a specific type of psychology such as social psychology or CBT etc.. I was told I'd only have to do a course for 2 years but I'm trying m find out what course it is.
