they've changed sponsor to 3, so a 'new' jersey is to be released in 2 weeks

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 19,080 ✭✭✭✭Random

still a bargain considering previous prices imo.

Bought this at full price less than a month ago, well annoyed. Lovely jersey.

Sickened if that is true. I spent 55 on the jersey a few months back. Can the FAI really issue a new jersey? There must be some consumer protection.

    Great price though!

€20 aint a bad price for it, €30 is pushing it :D

The Umbro deal runs until 2014 so I'd imagine there's a completely new jersey coming in a couple of weeks, can't see them releasing the same jersey with a different sponsor to the public.

That'll mean a new one in many peoples eyes, though

It would in mine tbh, even though considering the jersey the players actually wear in the matches has no sponsor on it, its as alike the one they actually play in, as the new one with 3 on it! :)

That jersey I put in the OP was only released last March so I'm be very certain that only the sponsor will change on it; nothing in the way of style or anything like that.

I do think that even though there's a new sponsor on the way so it won't be the up to date jersey, it's still a cracking price if you wanted to pick up an Ireland jersey.

Its only the sponsor changing on the jersey form eircom to 3....

And all this could be avoided if the FAI or whoever did not insist on putting a sponsor on the replica national jersey. I cant think of any other nation that does this. Purely for generating revenue irrespective of the financial costs to the fans

This is just a big follow on from the deal OPEL struck with the FAI back in 1988. They set the precedent and its unlikely any new main sponsor would accept anything less.

Euro 88 away jersey is the greatest jersey ever to be made :D

Got the Eircom one at full price only last week. Damn you FAI.

Email John Delaney and ask him to write off the difference against a ticket to one of the Euro Qualifier games.

Not gonna happen but it would strike me as a fair enough resolution for anyone who paid full whack for that jersey.

Is it only €20 in the ilac? even the website has it reduced to that price.
Also does anyone else have a problem when they add it to the basket you cant select the size or quantity?

    EDIT

tried adding some other stuff to the basket and same problem :/

I think when you go into the basket you can select the size there.

Is there any way to remove the sponsor from a jersey? Like steam it off etc

There is also a €6 delivery charge unless you are buying €50 worth of stuff. All the others will be selling them off as well so I reckon you should cool your jets unless you can pop into a shop and get it off the peg.

Littlewoods Ireland were selling the away one for €18.50 a couple of weeks ago with free delivery. People on here cleaned them out in no time after I put it up. Littlewoods are still selling the home one at €62 but I am sure that will change any day now. Ditto other retailers like Lifestyle etc.

There is a few other cheap jerseys on Champion (not providing links because their website is dog slow!)

    Juventus home (€15)
    PSG away (€15)
    Russian home (€10)

There is a couple of cheap liverpool jerseys too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,500 ✭✭✭✭cson

They have Steau Bucharest and Inter away in the Jervis Store for €20 too iirc.

Yeah, website seems to be screwed at the moment, for whatever reason. It's a pain, hoping I can get one in a store instead.

Yeah I tried twice and both times it tells me my purchase is zero euro.
No option to request a size either. No receipt for delivery either.
    Defo somethngs a bit screwy

Anyone know is this reduced in Lifestyles, Elverys etc??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,901 ✭✭✭RayCon

Thanks Op ... just picked one up for my Son in Champion Sports Blanchardstown ... they only had 1 X Large Short Sleeve and 1 X Large Long Sleeve left at 12pm .. plenty of baby kits for €10 .

Out of curiosity I checked Elvery's , Lifestyle and JJB - all still full price.

website is fecked. I'm tempted to just order anyway and see if I get 15 jerseys for 20 euro :D

Came in here to post the very same thing! Is it just stuck on or is it sewn into the shirt? It would be a fabulous jersey without the sponsor. I don't fancy walking around giving free advertising to a mobile phone company that I don't even use.

Was in Champion Sports in the ilac center at lunch time and they only had XL and Small left. Interestingly the jersey's are €30 in the Champion Sports on Henry st.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,450 ✭✭✭Batesy

The FAI would sell tonnes more of these jerseys if they had no sponsor on it.

not sure if its purly down to the FAI, like the eircom deal there may have been something in the contract that they show the sponsor on sold replica shirts

but yes, the FAI should try to agree to sell it without the sponsor, am sure more fans would buy it. most countries are sponsored, and the only time you will see the sponsor is whilst the team is training or on training gear or causal wear sold in the shops, such as the trackies or polo shirts, etc.

if the ireland shirt did not have a sponsor on i would not hesitate in buying it, last ireland shirt i bought was a polo a few years ago, and was even disapointed when i seen a euro coin sized eircom logo on the sleave.

It's the rubbery type print. I'd say it would be impossible to take it off without putting a hole in it. The FAI shop in carrolls on D'olier st do without the logo for €70....

Was just in Champion Sports on Grafton St (and Lifestyle Sports Stephen's Green) and not a sniff of a bargain jersey anywhere.

Would buy that Juve one in a flash if the bastard site would let me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,235 ✭✭✭jacool

The hoopla over the launching of this jersey makes me think it will be with us for 2 years, albeit with a new sponsor. Not a clever step by the FAI unless we get that many points in every qualifier. The jersey is lovely, but the sponsor's logo is ugly.
Other countries have gear with sponsors name splattered all over them but these never appear in the shops on the actual jerseys, just on all the training stuff e.g. Germany and Mercedes.
Interesting that you can buy a "logo-less" one from the FAI!

It's funny but I've been in Carrolls Westmoreland St a couple of times the last few weeks and I've never seen the sponsor less shirts in there apart from the Argentina specials.

I'm pretty certain I saw the Juventus jersey in Champion Sports on Henry st. at lunchtime today. They were hanging up high and I couldnt see any price tag on them though? I'm thinking though that these are the new jersey because the sponsor was 'Betclic' and not 'New Holland' like on the CS website?

I got a lovely long sleeve home jersey for €20 at lunchtime in the Liffey Valley Champion. There were a few left and a few away training shirts too.

Plus, insanely cool toddlers jerseys in case you have kids...

Cheers but I took a punt on this one from "wowjerseys.com". €21.50 and they stick your name and number on (and deliver) for nothing.

May not turn out to be Serie A quality, but I need to update my 1990's Roberto Baggio shirt!

It is annoying, I agree. As others have said this all started with Opel and I'd say it's actually a big stipulation from the sponsors that they must have their logo on the Jersey - from their perspective it's like having thousands of mobile ads walking around the country on match days. Which is exactly why I hate it!

Probably one of the nicest Jerseys in a while though, and at least this way, with a little imagination, you can pretend the "3" on the Jersey refers to the squad number...

At 8.30pm this evening the long sleeve jerseys were €32 in the Liffey Valley branch. The only short-sleeve ones left were youth sizes, and they were priced inconsistently - some were €22 and some were €27. Didn't see any at €20.

Was talking to one of the head people in Champion Sports and he told me
Umbro were not aware beforehand that the jerseys would have to be changed so soon and now have a load of stock that needs to be replaced.
It will be 3 months before they will have the "new" 3 Jersey in the shops!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,191 ✭✭✭The_Hustler

Thanks OP, just got the last medium one in the Jervis today as none left in the Ilac, and it was €20 like the others, not €30, so happy days!

Thanks OP for posting this. I got one in Waterford this afternoon for €20.

Only for this post I wouldn't have known about it. They didn't have any on display so I asked and they had them in the storeroom, I don't know why they weren't out on the shop floor.

My son's delighted with his new shirt.

Unfortunately they don't. Was in there last week and the only sponsorless shirt was a special edition "v argentina" shirt for €90. I think €20 is still a rip off considering its not the same shirt as the team. Would you buy a club shirt with extra sponsors were on it? ones that didn't appear on the shirt that the players wear??

Only an extra large left in galway eyre square shopping centre. Its hidden behind some rugby jerseys.

    Online I go

He was wearing the old one with a '3' patch covering the eircom logo.

I had a look around Dublin City centre today before work and any Champion I went into were sold out :(
