    I notice them a lot more these days. Whats the breakdown ? What happens if a load go on maternity over a few year period, will more people be recruited or could retired Garda come in as cover?

    maternity leave is covered locally within a district, and no, retired members retire for a reason... nice name ye have there?????:confused:

    I doubt it would ever get to a stage where 50%+ of female Gardai will go on maternity leave together!!
    When one does go on leave, cover is normally organised with someone else you work with. Same as in any other job

    Does the question reflect the user name?? :)

    Other jobs might hire temporary cover on a short term contract. I don't see how that would be possible in AGS

    It's not possible. Cover organised within station or in worst case scenario, from other local stations. It would rarely even get that far tbh

    I assume that's what the reserve is meant to be for, fill in the numbers if required.

    Not really, there's no provision for Reserves to be called in to cover full-time Gardaí who are absent for whatever reason.
