    Hi All,

Wanted to get some feedback regarding the best place to compare insurance quotes and do people think the following is high for comprehensive car insurance.

Currently my friend who is female, 73 with no claims, accidents, is paying euro 817.18 (before gov levys) to AON personal insurance. The car is a Mercedes Kompressor c180 2005 purchased second hand in 2007 for euro 30,000. Do people think this is a high quote? ( I don't drive so have no idea)

    Thanks

Best thing to do when looking for car insurance is to get out the phone book and ring around every company and broker you can find. Its the only way to ensure that you get the best quote (and dont rely on online systems to come back with the best price).

Her age might be going against her, and also the size of the car. Tell her to try some of the companies that specialize in insuring older drivers. One such company near me (Naas) is http://www.caoga.com/.

Agreed with djimi. Your friends insurance will be moving into a higher risk category every year in account of her age. Caoga are the insurance company that comes to mind as they specialise in insurance for the over 50's but that doesn't mean they are going to give her the most competitive quote either. If you/ she can take an hour out to ring at least 10 brokers/ companies she might end up saving herself a small fortune.

Also I'd advise that the value of the car is factored down as theres no way its worth next or near 30k now. I notice insurance companies don't do this when you renew so they probably need to be told. She would still only get the market value of a 2005 Mercedes C180 or a replacement 2005 Mercedes C180 similar to her own (whatever way they're doing it these times) if god forbid she had an accident and it was wrote off, or it was stolen or burnt.

Many thanks for you replies - very useful - getting the value of the car assessed is great point as is the insurance company who specialise in 50 plus.
