There the same but the sir is slightly lighter and runs higher octane as standard, also being Japanese most sir's are better maintained from new than
a Uk spec vti, thus they lose less horses over the years.

Well according to Honest John the VTI is 167 bhp, that's the 1.8 B18C4, it doesn't mention the power of the 1.6 VTI (B16A2) but it does say:
1997 saw the introduction of the VTI model. There was a rear VTI badge, and decals of "DOHC VTEC" on the rear doors. Then a limited edition VTI-S. The VTI came in 2 different flavours - the DOHC 1.6VTI (B16A2 engine) and the DOHC 1.8VTI (B18C4). The 1.6VTI car was actually slightly faster in acceleration than the 1.8 due to the different gear ratios (the power developed by the engine was higher in the 1.8, but the measured power at the wheels was not as pronounced due to the different gear ratios. The 1.6 was also a lighter engine). Front/rear disc brakes were standard on all VTI/VTI-S versions. The 5-door versions included a much-needed Torsen limited slip differential, which went some way to
    eliminate understeer.

So if you're talking about the 1.6 VTI then the SIR has more power at 170bhp.

From new the SIR has 10 bhp more than the VTI.

I'm nearly sure they're the same, only the jap SiR will be quoting a higher bhp because of higher octane fuel. The engines are the same in both, only reason its not called a vti is the jap brought out their 1.5 130bhp first and called it a VTi. Plus the jap SiR will always be quoted as PS, which is a tiny bit more than Bhp.

    edit; found this
    6G '96-'00 SiRII - Engine (Japan)
Displacement cc (cu in) 1595 (247.2)
    Horsepower @ RPM 168 @ 7800
    Torque @ RPM 116 @ 7300
    Chasis EK
    Compression 10.4:1
Note Same engine used in the European Civic VTi

I had a 99 vti hatch that made 158bhp stock, same day it was dyno'd two ek sir's made 162 and 163 respectivly. There was nothing in it between the car's though

The same model cars (especially if a few years old) will always give slight variations in BHP on a rolling road, some could be different fresh out of the factory.

    the vti(b16a2) has 158-160bhp,

    the sir1(b16a)(jdm) has 168bhp

and the sir2(b16a5) has 174bhp(note the sir2 only came with and auto gearbox)

Once the SIR is on irish fuel I don't see there being any difference at all

The UK vti only has 158bhp (i thought it was more), the SiR has 168bhp+.
The SiR engine has a different compression and different cam profile, plus smaller cat and different ECU.
