Hi guys just a quick question about two laptops.
If this thread is uneccasary mods please shut it down

Im currently looking at buying the toshiba L650d-102 http://ie.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/product/Satellite-L650D-102/1086079/toshibaShop/false/ from soundstore for 599euro and was pretty convinced thats what I was going for until I saw the aldi laptop for sale, its the Medion P6512http://aldi.medion.com/md98380/uk/?refPage=medion

Now I dont know what to get so I tought id ask someone on here for advice.

I would be interested in gaming on it(nothing serious, ps3 is my main thing)

Which would be better for gaming?

Also if anybody knows of similar priced laptops that give me more bang for my buck please let me know.

    Thanks :D

Graphics Card is themain thing for gaming. Avoid shared memory. Go for Medion.

Is it a major difference in these two laptops(performance wise), what kind of games do you think I could run on either of them at a stable framerate, would love to splash out on a proper system but just dont have the money.

    Thanks

Sorry I´m not really an expert concerning to games. The only thing I can tell you is that gaming with a graphics card that has got shared memory is a pain. You should go for a computer with dedicated memory for the graphics card

Go for the medion, it has a real gaming card ,radeon 512meg video ram,
by the way i saw a 17inch medion laptop, 599euro ,one left in glass case in santry avenue .I WAS there sunday evening.
aldi has 3 year gaurantee on laptops, electronic items ,be careful not to lose the receipt.
i do not know what the graphics on the 17inch is, might be intel intregrated shared graphics.IT has dual core cpu, 3gig ram,300gig drive.

I got the acer aspire 5542 today. Cost E554

It's got an ati radeon hd 4200 which is onboard shared memory, but it has a feature called crossfirex which means you can use the onboard 4200 in conjunction with a dedicated graphics card from the 3400 series.
on its own it has up to 1919mb hypermemory (dunno what that means it just what it says on the tin)

Havn't installed any games yet but will be installing civilisation4 and halo 1 tomorow so will update you then, but from my experience so far i'd reccomend it.

This gives you a run down of that graphics card. http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-Mobility-Radeon-HD-5470.23698.0.html

List of tested games and frame rates at the bottom.

well installed civilization-4 and have been playing it for 2 hours now, no problem with perfect detail. installed perfectly with windows 7, which i was suprised at seen as i know vista had big problems with it.

Really starting to like this laptop (acer 5542, btw if you didn't see the last post) would really reccomend it.

will install halo1 and cod4 tommoro and will ley you know how well they play.
If they play well I think this laptop will be very good for you seen as you are looking for the same things i was looking for.

Thanks for all the advice lads, ended up buying the medion yesterday. So far ive installed a couple of old games like rainbow six 3 and there running perfectly which is all i really wanted, I have the ps3 for the new stuff.

One of the handy things about it is you can switch your gpu to a lower power one when your not doing anything demanding to save battery.

Id really reccommend this laptop to someone looking for bang for your buck.

The only bad thing about it is the keyboard feels fairly flimsy and the smallest return key ive ever seen:mad: but Ill get use to it
