Im in the process of loosing weight and have just left running in the gym, and have done a few runs in the wide world for the first time..

I ran 5k yesterday and my knee's are still a bit sore. not agony or anything near it, but I can feel a bit of pain in them.

Is this common, or just a bad sign of possible knee issues and I need ot take a few days off?

It's pretty common. I wouldn't start worrying unless the pains went from 'ache' to 'sharp', or they got worse as I was running, or something.
But don't push it - take a rest day in between runs, don't up the miles too fast, and think about following a proper training plan (couch to 5k, novice 5/10k, something like that).

This thread will be locked but... I find if I am lazy with my stretching for a week my knees will end up niggling. Tight calves and hamstrings put extra strain on them.

If you are quite overweight this could/most likely add to any other problems.

Oh, and try to run on grass, or at least tarmac, if possible. Avoid concrete paths when you can

Look up "Runners Knee" in the interweb....

If that doesn't set you straight go and see a physio.

Thanks, and sorry for the newbie question [as with all newbies, I posted before searching, sorry]

My knees occasionally get a bit achy - usually when I forget to take the cod liver oil for a while. I use the one that contains fish oil. Might be only a placebo but I've heard others recommend it and it does the trick for me! Vile tasting stuff but easy to ignore if you add it to your orange juice.

OP, pain is never "normal". Only you can decide if it's a case of too much too soon or if you should go see a professional. A physiotherapist with expertise in sports is a good first stop rather than a bunch of strangers on the internet. We cannot give medical advice here.

Everyone else, you should know better. Do I have to wag my finger at you all??
