    Hi,

I'm having a few people from work over on Friday and for the meat eaters I'm going to have a BBQ but one of the girls is a veggie so I don't know what make for her. Can veggie burgers be barbecued or do they have to be oven cooked/grilled?

What would you suggest I make for her or is there somewhere that specialises in veggie food, I want to make her something really nice......

    Any advise greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Niamh

You could try Veg & Tofu skewers: http://myadventuresinveg.blogspot.com/2010/07/bbq-tofu-veg-skewers.html
    They're really yum!
Or any veggie burger / baked potatoes etc

Go in to Tesco or Dunnes and get their standard TVP burgers.
They're the brown boring looking ones in the veggie section, they BBQ very nicely and are cheap.

Then get yourself a block of Haloumi cheese (Tesco are cheapest I can find) - it's about 3-4 euro a block - it won't melt like regular cheese and makes excellent skewers with Tofu and veg.

Be careful Niamh. Might we worthwhile checking how strict your veggie friend is.

If it is just the one veggie coming along and you defintiely wan't to cook her something i'd cook it in the oven away from the meat. As I personally wouldn't eat anything that was cooked on the same bbq as meat. I'd also wouldn't go near anything with cheese in it unless I knew for sure it was it was marked as 'suitable for vegetarians'.

    Edit:

Or you could buy one of those cheap disposable 3 euro bbq's just for your friend.

Unfortunately Tesco and Dunnes have stopped doing their own brand but they may have the Quorn brand. Health shops may also do the TVP type.

Wow, thanks a million for all the responces!!

I do know she eats cheese and also eats diary so its just meat and fish that she doesn't eat......

Good idea about the disposable BBQ too btw, i'[ll pik one of them up in Tesco when I'm doing my shopping!

I actually picked up a couple of things in M&S yesterday - piccolo peppers with goats cheese and some other veggie bits and pieces, I tasted them last night and liked them so I'll pick up some more for Friday!! Surely if I like them she will!!!

    Thanks again for the replies!

I'll let you all know how it goes!

Well, sorry for the delay in updating you about the BBQ but it went off without a hitch..... I even had some of the veggie food I prepared for the guest and it was nice.... not nice enough to turn me though!!!!

I did also get Linda McCarthy sausage rolls which were also ok, better with some tomato sauce on them for sure!!
