    hi
does anyone know, if there is any alternative to having to have a phone line connected to your skyboxes to enable multiroom?

the reason im asking is that, from what i can see, we would have to get eircom to set us up with a phone line, which would cost us €25 pm, and we wouldn’t be using that phone line for anything other than updating the skybox, as we both have mobiles. (they cant supply broadband in our area, so the phone line couldn’t be used for that purpose either)

we will probably get a satellite broadband connection, and im just wondering if the skybox can be updated using this connection??

    (it’s probably a long shot...)
    thanks.

Why not get fta boxes for other rooms if the likes of BBC,ITV, etc. are the main channels going to be watched on them.Keep sky for the main room.
There can be problems getting call backs to boxes connected to a voip system,e.g Digiweb Metro, even UPC phones. So maybe satellite broadband would cause a problem in that department.
Slightly off topic, check out Digiweb for satellite broadband or depending on where you live there are lots of fixed wireless broadband providers.

Ive never had my multiroom connected to a phone.

Never had any complaints from SKY etc, It did used to be my old Sky Box before I upgraded to SKY HD so i dont know if thats the reason?

Get ready for a huge bill! My friend had a faulty extension lead on his phone extension lead to his multiroom. He suddenly realised he was getting charged 2 full subs every month of around 170€.

    A) I'm pretty sure they warn you in advance that your phone line is not connected and will be charged accordingly.
    B) Checking bank statements online would have captured that early.
    C) Even half that amount is too much to be giving to Sky each month! :)
