Anybody have any thoughts on how to at least curb this?

I tend to play every saturday early ( about 8 ) so that i can get home around 12:30 and do some work on the house ( well thats the agreement with herself! ). Anyway, the pattern is... i get home, have a cuppa and a sambo and im practically out on my feet. if i dont lie down for 2 hours i feel like a hollow husk, no energy whatsoever.

about the only thing i can compare it to is jet-lag. i realise that some tiredness is to be expected, and maybe im just getting on, but im just curious if anyone else has a similar experience or is there something i should be doing ( like going to bed early the previous night ). i thought maybe i was dehydrated and have been drinking isotonic drinks both during and directly after rounds, with no apparent relief. Also tried one of those ionic braclet things for 6 months... what a waste.... they saw me coming - i am a golf gimmick fiend!

midweek rounds of 9 to 13 holes are no problem whatsoever.

    cheers.

Stick to water. It's better for ya. Sounds like your anemic (spelling). Should try iron tablets for a while.. my misses is a machine when she takes them. Also do what I do and live of steak ha. And pasta for show release energy.

it's not ideal at this time of year due to it being warm but a bowl of porridge before a round does wonders for me - and keep taking on the water on the way around

Might sound ridiculous but a shoe change /larger size (doctors advise) worked wonders for me, leg pain/fatigue vanished.

It could just be the fact you've worked all week, and get jp early on your day off.

I think it has alot to do with sleep also.

Played 18 holes yesterday and was wrecked afterwards, partly to do with a little prick having a party two doors up the road the night before. Played 36 last Sunday and was fine.

I also find that when I get home I need to stay active, no matter what it is. If I lounge about I feel much more tired.

nice! im all for any diagnosis that includes more sleep, steak, new shoes and porridge!

does anybody think chocolate cheesecake, expensive rioja, a home putting green, new clubs and a large bucket of marijuana will do anything for me????

    thanks all.

i reckon i'll try bed early / more water / berroca combo first and go from there.

if im able to muster the wherewithall to deal with skirting boards and the like in the coming weeks its been a resounding success.

Does herself have a strong thumb?, get a cleaner imo.
Seriously though ask yourself is it mental or physical tireness you're experiencing?

Not surprised you are tired you must be up before 7am!! What is your course like - is it long/hilly etc and how fit are you?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,652 ✭✭✭Trekker09

You need to stretch your muscles afterwards otherwise lactic acid will start building up. I do a lot of hiking and always stretch before and after a hike.

Sounds like you are tired, pretty normal. My advice - skip the coffee or tea after the game, go straight home jump into bed and embrace the power nap for 30-40 mins, and bang you are back in the game.

what about incorporating some flora into your diet

when i get an opportunity to interview big shane lowry i'll run this by him too
i'd say hes a pasta and red bull sorta bloke
    followed by a gateau cake
    red bull = immediate blast
    pasta = slow burner
gateau cake / log = sustenance

    Appreciate the offer!

However, i need confirmation of the above dietary itinerary by friday night at the latest for it to achieve a result of any consequence.

I have a round scheduled for saturday morning at 8:10, further down in my diary is an entry which reads as follows:

15:00 - plant hedge to front of house.

Please confirm if said interview is scheduled before friday 13th 8pm ( my bedtime ).

    best regards!

Stay clear a red bull anyway. Caffeine has been proven not to increase alertness. The reason people think it does is because there in caffeine withdrawl, and they feel better ehen they have some. Also of you drink caffine Monday to friday. You'll be likely to get headaches and generally feel down by sunday due to the withdrawl.

is there a dietician/nutritionalist in the house?
the above needs to be dissected by a professional

You basically need to eat your way around the course. Stay away from Isotonic drinks at they are too sugary and stick to water. I usually bring a sandwich, apple/ banana, brazil nuts, Nature Valley bar and loads of water. I usually pop a Berocca Boost into the water bottle at the turn which keeps my energy levels consistent. Keep nibbling and sipping on every 1-2 holes

great advice man thanks. i'll literally arm myself to the teeth with healthy nibbles and water and see how it goes... and give up the lucozade sports entertainment drinks... clearly ive been duped. which isnt hard in fairness.

Update ( and in light of the other thread ) :

During saturdays 8am round drank a litre of water - then about 8 holes in popped a berocca boost. Ate half a packet of dried fruits & nuts that i got in tesco for €2. Ate 2 bananas and 1 apple and a sandwich. Think i slighty over did it with the food.. might try just the fruit this coming wknd.. and see how i feel.

I've a hunch the key was plenty of sleep the night before and defo the water - but the nibbles certainly kept me going.

Post round fatique was there but only slightly, which is to be expected. Kept busy afterwards, as recommended here. but kept drinking water all day, felt compelled to keep drinking it, as if the body was telling me to keep the levels up - basically had a thirst all day.

eventually by say 6pm felt good enough to give the clubs a scrub... ah the overenthusiasm of the mindlessly optimistic.

    So:
    lots of sleep.
    water.
fruit & whatever you fancy ( but not buns or choc. bars and such)
    & stay active afterwards.

1 guy suggested iron tablets too - im looking into this to see if ive a deficiancy here.

saturday was transformed from being the usual long struggle to feeling like it used to.

Mission accomplished. appreciate all the input.
