I dont care what is sais in news papers i know first hand that what you tell the author isnt alway what gets published. The man goes to brazil every year competes and does well I agree with tim and say fair play to him. Anybody steps on a mat gets my respect .Id like to think when im 50 plus id be the same. Josies not everyones cup of tea but theres no need to start threads like this just because you happened to be reading the letterkenny post:rolleyes:

in fairness last time i was in brazil i bumped into a to a guy at the beach who happened to be a training partner of ricksons and he asked where i was from.

first person he asked about was josie murray when i said ireland

i don't know him but he seems well enough known over there, it was the 2nd time i was asked about him. also ju jitsu is a way of life over there so there are no easy matches at any level whether in the gym or in competition. losing to a gringo is like the ultimate disgrace even in normal rolling so nearly every roll u can expect to have someone try to take ur arm home with them if they even get half a chance.

outside of brazil, in some gyms u might come across a "weak" blue, purple, brown or even black, depending on age whether in shape or not etc but i never came across a weak anything over there. at least that's been my experience of it after 2 extended trips down there. so most wins or any wins at all are usually well deserved, u don't expect too much fair play either from refs depending on which team ur from or who's in ur corner.

I did not realise he'd achieved brown belt level, fair play to him, Irish BJJ is really coming on and we'll have a number of Black belts within the next year or 2.

The man travels half way round the world to train with and compete with the best.

    Fair play to him.

Sorry, am i right in saying that he came second in the over 50s division? fair play to him but it does seem to be a bit different than the article? also I thought there was other brown belts in ireland

it says in the article thatit was a seniors and masters comp. that means older guys in every sport

He may well be the only "Gracie Jiu-Jitsu" brown belt in the country

It reads like any sport article in any local paper, whether its the local badminton team, or the ladies junior camogie team.

fact is, he is activly competing and placing in his chosen sport, so fair play

Yeah man you're right, I'm so jealous of Josie. And I'm sure all of the posters in this forum are.

    ...Get a grip dude;)

Congrats to him for winning his matches, im sure he did very well anyway. I have respect for him for that, I have also heard some people lacking respect for him but tbh I dont care either way. I'm not jealous of him in the slightest though, but fair play and I hope he keeps doing what he's doing.

Thats an old head on young shoulders, and a great reply and a mature way of locking down this thread.
