problem with Aer Lingus flights

    Hi guys,

I had a bit of hassle with Aer Lingus there. Basically, I booked a flight to edinburgh and returned tonight (Sunday). Only upon producing my confirmatory email, it turned out that somehow my return flight was booked for friday which was also the day I arrived. Both myself and my gf were at the PC when I booked and we double checked everything. I also never received a confirmatory email about the flights from Aer Lingus. It was only when, the day before we flew and I went looking for the email that I saw it never arrived. I went back to search on the Aer Lingus website and luckily, our flight ref came up in the stored data for the booking number field on the website.

I went into manage booking and got them to resend email, thinking all was grand. Would there be any chance there was an error on their system? I don't know how both myself and the gf could have missed something as stupid as this and also, I thought there was a warning that popped up if booking 2 flights on the same day was input? It turned out there was another woman on the same flight and the exact same thing happened to her.

Have I chance of getting any comeback with Aer Lingus? The only reason I am going to try to chase it up and appeal to their sense of decency (if any) is because I had to pay £480stg for a ****ty little regional flight from edinburgh to dublin (the original was about £20 each) when a cursory glance at our flights would show that it was an honest mistake.

Apologies if this is in the wrong forum and thanks in advance for any advice.

There is no warning, and the default booking interface fills in today's date for both legs of the flight and then updates the second leg to the date you select for the first. So its not implausible for two people to have accidentally clicked on through on the same flight.

I suspect you may be able to get a refund for the flight you didn't take under the circumstances, certainly any taxes for it are rightfully yours. Can't see much hope of any part of the rebooked flight.

Yes, that is definetly a failing with the Aer Lingus online booking system. Ryanair gives a warning to confirm if you book to return on the same day.

I'll email them and try to appeal to their sense of decency but I don't have high hopes

Here is an Aer Lingus Webpage link: http://www.aerlingus.com/help/contactus/#d.en.1204

Claim form in April when that volcano cloud disrupted Europe. http://www.aerlingus.com/Services/claimForm.pdf

My personal experience of goodwill with Aer Lingus is great.
Vouchers in Munich. Supper, hotel and breakfast in Frankfurt due to snow. Suitcases being delivered by taxi to my rural dwelling.
Aer Lingus were great during that "ash cloud" crisis this April and with a refund afterwards.

Thus I encourage you to approach Aer Lingus telling it like you have told us.

I'll try that and see how it goes. Did you phone them up or sent them a letter in the post?

I sent them a letter in the post with:
    - my full name and address
    - booking reference, flight dates and flight number
    - the reason why I seek a refund
    - the hoped for refund in Euros
    - my Bank account number, Bank name and Bank code
    - my signature

    Thanks.

And did they give you a full refund? The £STG just came off my credit card there as €600 for 2 single flights from Edinburgh to Dublin :-(

Was your flight back on Sunday with Aer Lingus?

Yeah, I flew back with them as well. I actually decided to fly from Dublin and use Aer Lingus to 'buy Irish' and all that craic. I didn't want to use EasyJet even though flying from Belfast would have been closer for us.

Hopefully that will help the goodwill too.
