    Hi Everyone,

we may be facing redundancies at work and it has really got me thinking about my future. I left school when i was 16 then when i was 18 decided to go back and try and get my leaving cert which i did! passed the LC and then went on to do a hotel and catering course. i soon found out that line of work wasnt for me, even though i completed the course i really didnt fancy a career in the hotel business. so ever since i have been working in admin. its not exactly too challenging or well paid and i have been thinking to myself that i dont want to spend my life in a job that i dont particularly like nor will i ever get a great salary out of. So i was thinking what would be my ideal job and primary teaching is something i would be extremely interested in!. i love children and i just think there would be tremendous satisfaction out of it. heres the problem: i moved over to ireland when i was 12 and never had to do irish as a subject therefore didnt have to do the exam. i would be completely willing to work my butt off to learn irish and get the C3higher that is required but i need to know if it is actually possible or am i just dreaming?! i have very very little irish in fact hardly any at all so this may be impossible but if there are people out there who believe this would be possible then i would really give it my best shot! if i did get the exam result i need i know theres a long way to go but im only 23 so now would really be the time to get in gear and do somethign about my career... oh hindsight is a great thing, why didnt i do this in school!!!!anyway any opinions will be greatly appreciated!!! thanks!!!!

You have a few choices, get a B in hons Irish or try to go to England, but you would still need to pass an exam in Irish. Posting on educationposts.ie might get you better ,more exact details from those who have gone this route. Be aware that primary jobs are very hard to come by and that the current government may well cut even more. I'd suggest you get involved in helping with children, through sports,as a class assistant or something like guides or scouts.

Start learning Irish any way you can. Was your hotel and catering course an honours degree? If not, best best would be to learn Irish to a comfortable conversational level, then to the LC, then try to get into an educational degree course. Like the above said, working with youth grups in some capacity will help a lot.

You're young, you should definitely go for it if it's what you want to do.
