Tips for traveling to the Carribean

    Hi,
Myself and my girlfriend are planning on heading to the dominican republic at the end of September for an "all-inclusive break".
I'm just wondering if anyone has any tips about traveling to that part of the world?
Some places seem to recommend getting vaccinations, whereas others say its optional, what is the general consensus?
In terms of money, what is the best way to go about getting the local currency and how much would one need for a week stay?
There seems to be alot of organised trips but has anyone any info about getting around by yourself ie public transport etc. Is it safe?
Any tips/advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    September is hurricane season.

Bring euro and change it locally. If you're bringing dollars you'll have to pay fees here and fees converting to pesos when you get there. How much cash depends on your plans, you can use credit card for any trips or purchases around the resort.

Walking around the resorts is safe but I wouldn't recommend wandering around the local towns at night. Nor would I recommend hiring a car. There is a lot of poverty in the country.

We are off to Dominican Republic for the last two weeks of Sept. My doctor says malaria tablets are non-negotiable. I got a Hep A booster vaccine last week as well. If it's all inclusive, you shoudn't need much money except for tipping.
