Hi, We plan to get in sky multiroom, a sky plus box and a standard box in another room.Sky say i need a phone line at both boxes. I have wired a phone point to where the sky + box is going but not where the standard box is going. I don't want a phone wire to be clipped all around the skirting board or something similar so i was wondering if there's any way around it. Would it be possible to put the phone point to just one box or even put the two boxes at the one tv (where the phone point is) and use something wireless. Thanks in advance.

You will need a phoneline for both boxes in order to get multiroom. An easy solution for you would be a wireless phonejak

Yep, currently using one of these myself in a bedroom that doesn't have a phone socket. They work perfectly although they are a bit expensive (I have the "one for all" make/model). They can also be a bit tempramental at times.

I agree they can be expensive, but worth the expense in my opinion if there is no alternative, I hate seeing cables myself..another alternative would be to run an external cat5 cable outside the house to the room required if this is a tidier option but this is also expensive to do..

The one for all are extremely tempermental, the phonejak ones are much better despite looking exactly the same..so I would recommend sourcing one of these instead.

I got multiroom over a year ago.

Connected temporary phone line to ordinary sky box for the engineer to do his call etc, then took it away.

Connected + box permanently as was convenient, never heard anything bad or good from sky.

    Chance it!!!!!!!!!!!1

Or better still & if its possible, just insert the phone line once a week and leave it in overnight. Leave the boxes on standby. They will connect to Sky and update as necessary. Sky will never bother you as it will appear on their system that there is regular contact with your boxes.

What happens if after the installation of Sky+ HD box & Sky box (multiroom) you just disconnect the phone lines?

Nothing. But to keep on the safe side, you should connect as I posted above.

What actually happens? Do Sky 'call' the box(s) to make sure they are at the designated address or do the box(s) call Sky?

Another thing; why can't Sky provide Irish people with either a Dublin or national number for calling? Those bloody 0818 numbers cost a bomb...

Sky can do a callback from time to time whenever they choose to, should they not detect your sky boxes on a line they will send you a warning letter advising you that they were unable to make a callback.

After a few more days prior to sending the letter they will try again and if callback again fails they will charge you full price for the multiroom card, and they will continue to do so until the phoneline is connected.

You can get wireless phone units in Maplin, however I have usually seen One 4 all units which I personally dont recommend..Ask them have they got the PHONEJak ones..

Hi, I'm currently with Smart for my phone/broadband, but am thinking of switching to WiMax. Their phone doesn't work from a phone socket? What are my options?

Edit: Probably a silly question, but must I have a 'working' phone line, meaning I'm paying line rental, or can Sky still operate it as long as the socket is connected? Sorry, haven't a clue :-(

Doubt wimax would work with Sky...would imagine it would be a voip line, some which do but most dont work. It would be worth asking the provider but they will usually tell you it will work and deny it should you run into problems.
