Cut and Colour in Cork City

Could anyone suggest a good place for a cut and colour in Cork City. I used to go to Jeff Devine's in French Church Street but it has since closed down. I went to the place in Wilton but wasn't over happy with the lady doing my hair.

I am not overly fussy about price. I just want someone who knows what they are doing and is pleasant.

If price isn't an issue, then I couldn't recommend Guapa on Tuckey Street any more. I got the best hair cut of my life there - she took one look at me and recommended a fringe. I NEVER thought one would suit me, but I've never gotten so many compliments since I got it done. The colour is fantastic too. They're trained in Toni & Guy and set up their own salon. It is expensive, but so worth it!

I also used go to Jeff Devine and hated the Wilton branch.

Are they more pricey than Jeff Devine or around the same do you mind me asking? I'm trying not to use my credit card so just want an rough idea of what kind of cash to bring with me.

I was not impressed with the Wilton branch at all. After a 20 minute wait when I arrived at 11.29 for and 11.30 appointment I explained to the girl that I wanted a colour very similar to the colour that I had. She said that she had the exact same colour and didn't offer to show me a chart. The colour she (got the guy washing the floor and making coffee to put in) gave me is very dark brown and nothing like the colour she told me it would be. It make me look very washed out.

I like the lady next to me sat for 30 minutes with wet hair waiting for the stylist to cut our hair. She cut my hair without saying a single word to me and started groaning when I asked her to shape it a bit more around my face 9even though I had told her this at the start of our consultation).

When she finished cutting (after she had blown dried it) she walked off. I thought that she had gone to get something and didn't know she was finished till different hair stylist came over and helped me out of the cape.

I went up to the counter and she handed me a card with her name on it with out a word. I was throughout the time friendly and polite to her. I know she may just have been having a bad day but it really put me off.

That's awful! I just got mine done in classes over there. There was loads of trainees, and the supervisor spent literally 2 seconds with me. The colour wasn't great, and it wasn't left on my roots for nearly long enough, so afterwards it looked like I hadn't gotten my hair done at all. I only noticed the next day in natural light, because the classes are held in the evenings there .

Guapa is probably a bit more expensive, but that's because they only have top people working there. You know in most places you get a choice of stylist, senior stylist and consultant or whatever? They're all the top people in Guapa. It's €60 for a cut, and I only know the price for a half head of highlights, which is €100. The prices aren't run together because it's different people who'll do your cut and colour, so you basically make two appointments, one straight after the other.

Aveda Hair Salon in Escape Salon in Imperial Hotel. I can't recommend them enough!

There is 15% off cut and colour every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

I wasn't sure what kind of colour you're after, so I checked on the prices of all over colours in Guapa too. It ranges from €60 to €75 depending on whether it's permanent or semi-permanent.

Thanks for that. Wednesday is normally the day that I get my hair done so the discount would be great. :)

I am also interested in this thread as I am looking for a new stylist after also having a bad experience in Jeff Devines in Wilton. What are the prices like in the Imperial? Do you need a voucher or anything get the discount?

I just go to the good aul' reliable: Peter Marks (Winthrop Street mostly, sometimes Wilton/Mahon). I have very long, finely textured hair which gets knotted and broken, and it's always silky-smooth and glossy when they're finished. I've tried many, many salons over the years and I've always ended up going back to PM.

I went into Peter Marks the other day for a wash and blowdry and asked the girl what I should do about the colour. She suggested putting in some highlights to brighten it up a bit and offered to do it then and there. I'm delighted with it.:)

I've another recommendation in Cork now. I decided on a whim to get my hair done today and Peter Mark seems to be the only place (I know of) that accommodates walk-ins, but today they were unable to, for once. So I chanced my arm at Hair Inc. just on the corner where Grand Parade meets Paul Street - across from The Great Outdoors. Fantastic. Firstly they were able to accommodate me without an appointment on a Saturday afternoon, the hairdresser paid huge attention to my masses of hair (as well as it being very long, I get greys - not a grey in sight afterwards) and it normally takes forever, but this wasn't too long at all. Hair super shiny afterwards, lovely cut (front layers) and I got a free bottle of Bed Head "split-end mender" leave-in conditioner for spending over €60! :)

It was €63 in total which is extremely reasonable for what I got done. All seemed lovely in there too. :)

Does anyone know of a really good colourist in Cork who isn't too expensive? Paying about €170 for cut and colour and really can't afford it anymore. I used go to a girl who was about €120, which I could just afford, but she moved away! I've naturally light brown hair but I usually get a full head of highlights a few times a year and half-head the rest of the time.

Faith, I 100% agree with your post! I get my hair styled by Shíle, and I used to get coloured by Daniel(back to my own colour now!) and I would reccommend them to anyone. They are so stylish and proffesional. Sure you would only have to look at them and the place to notice

Shíle suggested a fringe to me to and I was sceptical but I trust her(I wouldnt trust just anyone with my hair) and it was fab. This reminds me I have to get my fringe trimmed soon.

I think that Daniel is one of the best colourist in Cork. He goes to a lot of detail in a consultation can change your hair for the best in one sitting.
My best friend and sisters go to! I think between us we have converted about 15 people to going! And my other sister will be going too. My best friend highly reccommends Bríde too.

On a slightly different note Nicole(i think she is training) gives the MOST AMAZING head massages ever during your wash.

I am going to make another appoinment now:D

Guapa sounds fab but definitely out of my price range right now!
