I'm looking to upgrade my standard Sky connection to sky + and also get a multi-room connection. Sky are looking for €100 for the new sky+ box plus another €60 for installation without the multiroom.

Is there a cheaper way of having this installed?

do you want sky plus in both rooms?

Go thru an independant installer who may do the work cheaper than Sky. See if you can pick up the equipment second hand (take a look on adverts.ie for example to see if you can get the box).

I'm with SKY over 3 years now with the same connection on the standard box. I've well exceeded my minimum term so i can probably cancel without any penalty etc.

I can just recontract as a new customer i suppose and avail of their new customer offers i.e. €49 for the Sky + box

Ring up and tell em ur thinking of switching to upc. they'll put you on to retention department. tell em you want multiroom and that upc are giving you a special offer, and thats why you're thinking of quitting, they'll come back with an offer for you.

A lot of people move from UPC to Sky and people move from Sky to UPC to save money.

I think we should relax if the two boards spill into each other a bit.

Thats some nice backseat moderating there...

OP I would definately try going to Sky and telling them you are considering moving to UPC. Ive heard of numerous people who have done this and Sky will generally start throwing everything and anything at them to keep them on board.

    That's fair enough.

Thanks all for your input. I've got some contacts for a few local guys by PM so i might give that a try but i think i'll call SKY and refer to moving to UPC and see what they can do.
