I had some problems with my pc, I think a virus messed with the mbr on one of them, when I reinstalled xp one of the other disks in my pc was not working, when I clicked on it - its asks me do I want to format it.

In disk management I can see its a 250gb disk but 100gb of it is 'Unallocated' - but I cannot get to the data on the rest. It's not the end of the world if I loose it but I would like to get it back if possible

Can anyone recommend a program that could simply look at the disk and restore the data?
    Thanks

I've used GetDataBack and R-Studio in the past with success. They look at the raw disk. Copy what they find to another disk

If you want something free try Photorec. Don't forget to restore to a different location like usb drive or network or you may lose something permanently.

I have also used Get Data Back a few times to recover from a corrupted hard drive. Great program and easy to use.

I've used testdisk a couple of times to restore data from hard drives.

Photorec and testdisk are part of the same suite.
