Patience please and apologies if this has already been asked but I just do not have the first clue about how SKY satellie systems work.

We are thinking of getting rid of UPC and getting a SKY satellite system. Someone told me that you must have a landline telephone in your house so that it can work.

    Q1. Is this correct ?
Q2. Why do I need a landline telephone for satellite TV ?
Q3. We have 2 televisions in the house for which we would need the service so would this cause complications ?

    Thanks.

Before anything else do you actually need Sky for the channels you watch? Or do you just want a way of accessing the BBC/ITV/C4 channels which you can do without subscribing to Sky

The landline is for Multi-room the boxes call back a free phone number to prove the two boxes are at the one address.

Sky do not want you given the 2nd box to a friend or something so they can avoid paying a full subscription.

How do they enforce this if you just disconnect the phone line(s) after the install is complete and the system is up-and-running?

If the boxes don't make regular call backs you get a warning letter.

If you do not fix the situation Sky will just charge you two full subscriptions.
