Cessna still producing ?

I read that some time in the 1980's Cessna Corporation ceased producing single engine aircraft due to '' product liability issues '' in otherwords they kept getting sued after crashes involving single engine aircraft that suffered engine failure.
Have they resumed production or is it a case that as Cessnas go out of service that will be the last of them ?
Has anyone stepped into the gap in the market ?

Ya 1986 was the year when the 172 was stopped,1985 for the 152.Not much was done until the 172R was introduced in 96 and the 172S in 1998.172S still in production,thats the one with Garmin/Glass cockpit.As for competition The Piper Archer was produced until 2009 and Saratoga(Cherokee six) is still been produced.Otherwise the CirrusSR22 and some of the Vans types would come to mind as competition.

Glad to see that they again are making single engine aircraft . What caused them to change their mind - some legal breakthrough ?

Most likely but im sure demand was high after 14 years without a new model.The 172R was snapped up by clubs even in this country as there was alot of improvments.Example of 172R http://www.flyinginireland.com/aircraft.html?Registration=EI-GWY&Submit=Submit and 172S http://www.flyinginireland.com/aircraft.html?Registration=EI-OOR&Submit=Submit....The 172XP will always be my favourite version though!!
