Would have to recommend it. I was there four or five years ago for an Ireland game and stayed in Ayia Napa for a week. Didn't think it would be my cup of tea either but loved every day of it. Hire a car or a couple of mopeds and go exploring. There's a nature reserve not far fom Ayia Napa and some wild coastline with cliffs and lovely little secluded beaches. Cape Greko I think it was called but I may have just made that up :D Nissi Beach is also close by. Blue flag beach with some nice bars and restaurants and basically any watersport you can think of. Very busy but still recommended. Lovely country, has everything from nightlife to beaches to countryside. You can go mad drinking, enjoy some activities or just relax. It's all there.

Bear in mind that I was on a football trip so drinking was a big part of my holiday but that was just at night. Lots to during the day other than hitting the sauce. Can't really comment on non-drinking activities at night though as I didn't really sample them. Food was quite cheap and good although this was before Cyprus adopted the euro. Have heard it's actually gotten cheaper since then but I can't comment.
