Hi everyone, we have a 6yr old shih tzu who vets tell us has eczema :(
He's had these red itchy patches of skin for around 3 years now. We've tried so many different brands of food, he's on James Wellbeloved at the moment, as recomended by the vet. He dosn't get any other food or treats. He gets an anti-histimine tablet and an evening primose capsule daily also. All of this just keeps the eczema at bay, but nothing cures it completely :(

Is it cureable at all? The poor thing has himself driven mad from itching

Sounds like food allergies. I live in the US and work in a vet clinic and it seems like more and more of this breed have this problem. They are usualy allergic to the protein source, usually chicken or beef. You need to feed him a food with an alternative protein source ie: fish. You cannot feed them chicken or beef ever again and I would stay away from feeding them lamb based foods also. That includes treats or people food. It can be controlled but it takes up to six weeks to see an improvement.

Thanks for your advice Lily, James Wellbeloved do a fish based food aswell, so we'll try this. We'd try anything at this stage!

If you could get one that was some kind of fish and rice that would probably be good.
