    Hi guys

Got Sky digital installed yesterday. The television no longer works now. Turn it on and it turns itself off itself off after a few seconds.

It was working perfectly the night before. Sky are saying we "have no proof it wasn't already broken"

The same thing happened to my mums friend's TV when sky was installed.

Is this likely just a coincidence? Can sky really get away with saying that? Bit annoying having to fork out 400 euro for a new TV which I can't afford

Can't really see how Sky installation could cause something like that. The only thing they do to the TV is insert a cable to attach it to the Sky box, and select the correct channel (if the TV doesn't do that automatically). All the programming, messing about with wires, etc is done to the Sky box, not the TV.

    Reverse the hdmi lead.

Start by disconnecting the HDMI lead from the Sky box to the TV.. try it then.

Assuming this works, I'm guessing you have a Samsung TV which will switch off again (mine does anyway) if it doesn't detect an input signal on the selected channel so as suggested above try the HDMI lead again or another one if you have it.

I would be very surprised if that doesn't fix it.

If you plug out the Sky box from the TV and it still happens then it aint nothing to do with Sky! First thing to try.

Highly likely the power cable isnt inserted properly on your tv...have seen this countless times when moving in and out a tv from the corner..

After all if the tv was working and you signed off and were happy with the install then it's cannot be blamed on Sky or any1 else for breaking your tv...its just coincidental that it failed ...

Glad to hear its sorted....simple cure..common problem, the only good Lcd out there in my opinion is Panasonic, who have a click and lock kettle connection...

    Happy viewing my friend..

Panasonic and have that on their Plasmas also. Amazing the way people are so quick to jump the gun and blame Sky before checking their own setup first!

True and not just with sky,

The amount of times over the years i have been back to houses after fitting a Fta system to retune a box that a whizz kid son has messed up.
with in warranty. Or to relign a dish that the whizz kid expert has moved only to be told that nobody went near it again with in warranty. On one occasion i installed a satellite system for a farmer who phoned me up a few days later to tell me that since i was the last person to be at his TV that his calving cameras are not working.
But try and say to some people that if the product is not faulty and their will be a call out fee, All hell breaks loose. A installer friend of mine working in Rosslare fitted a FTA system a few years ago for a customer who left chorus 2 year later the customer phones him to say that he has lost some channels my friend tells this guy that their will be a call out fee to retune the box this guy blew his lid and said take it all back and give me back my money. 2 years later

I was installing a dish at a house once, and just after drilling the holes and mounting the support bracket I could hear someone screaming but for the life I couldnt find out where the screaming was coming from...so I carried on working away..

Every so often I'd hear the screaming again and eventually after scanning the various windows of the buildings I was looking toward I noticed a man drunk as a skunk about 3storeys higher than me screaming at me, blaming me for cutting of his tv..

What he didnt know was I had been to the building weeks before and put in a quote which his landlord the usual well to do and tight wadded landlord refused...I promptly rang the landlord in question and firmly told him to sort his tenant out...needless to say the screaming stopped 5mins later when the man was taken in from the window...cheek!
