David E. Kelley is giving Nate Corddry a sparring partner on his new NBC legal drama Harry’s Law.
Christopher McDonald (Family Law, Happy Gilmore) has landed the recurring role of Thomas “Tommy” Jefferson, a fast-talking, attention-seeking lawyer whose office is perma-lit for press conferences.
Debuting in the show’s second episode, Tommy goes head-to-head with Corddry’s Adam in an unlikely case about the legality of China’s one-child-only policy. And just like that, a rivalry is born.
Law, which is slated to premiere at midseason, stars Oscar winner Kathy Bates as Harriet Korn, a former patent attorney who forms an unconventional law firm in a run-down shoe store. The cast also boasts American Dreams‘ Brittany Snow.

Nate Corddry replaces Ben Chaplin who was in the pilot.

    Was the pilot any good?

Can David E. Kelley actually do anything else except legal dramedy's?

Surely even he himself must be sick of writing them at this point?

New Legal Comedy-Drama from the master of legal shows: David E. Kelley.

Harry's Law revolves around Harriet Korn (Kathy Bates), a recently-fired patent lawyer, and her group of associates as they come together to form a unique law practice in a rundown shoe store in Cincinnati.

It started last night, but I haven't seen it yet.

David E. Kelley really knows how to do comedy-dramas about the legal profession, but we really haven't seen him do one that worked since Ally McBeal. We'll just have to see how this does.

Watched the pilot and really enjoyed it. Quite amusing and well paced.

If it gets better than this then I think it's a winner!

Not only that, but it makes me want to run off to the US and grandstand as a lawyer :P

OK second episode was amazing. I'm definitely adding this show to my list.

The argument in court between Tommy Jefferson and Adam was great.

If you haven't watched the first two episodes yet, do it!

Was wondering if anyone else was watching this as I hadnt seen a thread about it poping up.

Not a bad show at all and entertaining enough but its not something thats completely hooked me in that I'd usually watch it after I've watched everything else. And is it just me or is Tommy Jefferson a take off of Denny Crane the way he loves the media, all the theatricality and regularly saying his name to psych himself up?

tv3 said it was not populer enough, i complianed to them as in why all of a sudden they pull it from the tv, they replyed back a week later saying '' as you may know we show programes as to how populer they are, but Harrys law was one of them.'' but they say they will show it at a later date in the summer. ha rite

That seems really odd... new direction for the show perhaps? They were getting on my nerves anyway but I'm actually surprised by this decision.

Season 2 kicks off tonight for those interested, fire away!

Watched this tonight... wasn't super impressed tbh. Show felt a bit flat.
Also, I'm not a huge fan of "last season on..." but I think we needed one in this episode - I had to go on wikipedia to remember what happened at the end of last season.

First episode wasn't amazing, but episodes 2 and 3 were amazing. Really liking the arc at the moment and the new direction for the show... plus the daughter/killer is smoking hot (as is the new, ex-DA lawyer they hired!)

I do feel kind of bad for Brittany Snow being all but phased out of the show, but it's worth it for this new grittier direction.

I gave up about halfway through season 1 but it sounds like I should maybe pick this up again

Sorry to be a killjoy but I wouldn't bother..

It's practically the lowest rated show right now on NBC.

TVByTheNumber's Renew/Cancel index has it even below the now cancelled 'Free Agent's and 'The Playboy Club'.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,397 ✭✭✭✭FreudianSlippers

It'll finish the season I think though.

    Ouch, thats not good

Suppose I do have a lot of other shows to be watching, not enough hours in the day frankly for something thats not up to scratch

NBC has ordered 6 more scripts (not eps. - but it's a positive sign of an additional episode order) bringing the S2 total to 18: http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2011/10/11/nbc-orders-6-more-scripts-for-harrys-law/106977/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Tvbythenumbers+%28TVbytheNumbers%29

Perhaps they're convinced the mini-reformat could produce stronger ratings in light of the success of shows like Suits?

Not the strongest episode of the new rebooted series; buh bye Ms. Snow (as I sort of called earlier) - touching goodbye from her at the end!

I really hope this show hits its stride now and comes back for another season. The new direction is firmly in place now with the dead weight cut and some new faces added.
The internal struggle and power dynamic will surely cause some problems in the future for this new mid-sized firm.

Very much looking forward to the rest of the season after a strong first 3 and a pretty OK 4th episode.

I suggest if you didn't like season 1 and gave up, give season 2 a chance from S02E01!

I liked this episode, both stories were pretty strong. It felt more like a character building episode but it felt slightly out of order. I was confused as to the relationship between the blonde woman and the new attorney

Anyway, I'm still digging the new direction.

Watching season one as I type and enjoying it even if it is yet another comedic law drama from a man incapeable of writing anything else.

Most of the characters seem to be composits of previous Kelly creations.

Lawyers seem to be the thing atm, between Suits, Franklin and Bash and Harrys Law theres no shortage of quirky, wise cracking lovable rogues

Season 2 drops most of the comedy stuff and it's a vast improvement on the show.

I dont mind the lighter moments just a shame they all seem to be taken from previous Kelly shows. Christopher MacDonald is channeling Shatner or more likely Kelly took some Boston Legal scripts and changed locations and character names.

Just finished episode 4 of season 2 and it really is one of the better shows on atm. It takes awhile to get used to the new format as the unique format of the first season made it stand out.

The one problem I have with the show remains the same as before, it remains far too familiar to the other lawyer shows over the past two years or so. That many of the same actors guest pop up (Jason Alexander with hair just popped up) makes it even more overtly familiar. Thankfully the characters are so like able and their relationships actually develop beyond the obvious.

I find Nate Corddry very likeable, which I wasn't sure of at first.

I know this is an almost certain cancellation but I think that's a real shame. Yes, the episodes are quite redundant but in all it has become a good and very easy to watch show this season.

Shame that this has been canceled as it really is one of the strongest shows on atm. While I have issues with the way Adam has been sidelined in favor of other characters the show is never less than entertaining and the cast are fantastic. It's a shame that a show with such an avid and large fanbase is being sidelined simply because the right demo isn't watching. Really wish television stations would take a chance on shows that are working and not run off chasing certain demos.

9 million viewers but all the wrong age group. What is the point in watching anything semi-intelligent anymore ?
A generation of "reality-TV" imbeciles is now dictating the schedules. By their logic MASH, Cheers, and The Simpsons would never have seen the light of day.
