ACCA v CPA

Following on from the thread ACCA v CIMA I would like to seek anyones advise as to which would be better to study out of ACCA v CPA

I did Accounts Technician in 2002 and have been a stay at home mum for the past 4 years. I really want to get the brain working again and am looking to study in September. I know I can get good exemptions to study CPA don't think they are as good with ACCA. And the cost of studying ACCA seems higher as well. Eventually I would like to work part time 2-3days due to family commitments so not sure if being qualified with one or the other would make a difference.

Would really appreciate any advice anyone may have as this is a hugh decision for me, financially and mentally to return to study and really want to get it right. Am thinking more CPA would suit me but maybe I am missing some information on ACCA that would be useful. Thanks!

    Hello Millie,

This has been covered extensively before - if you search for acca cpa in the search box you'll find a lot of information.

cpa is too short to search btw, only 4 letter or greater.

Perhaps a sticky into which old threads can go would help?

I meant searching for both CPA and ACCA ... anyway, took my own advice and the most relevant thread was buried pages back.

Problem with making a sticky of existing threads is that they all degenerate fairly quickly into a them Vs us. But I hear what you say and a sticky of sorts will soon appear. May <insert preferred deity here> have mercy on us. :)

Thanks. I can find lots of information on ACCA but not alot on CPA and can't seem to find any thread that compared them together.

I've posted a thread above that will hopefully provide your answer... in time. Or of course people are welcome to answer here.

ACCA is a larger organisation and has greater recognition outside of Ireland. The qualification also carries more weight with employers, unless of course they are CPA qualified themeselves
