I'm a dab hand with the buttercream but this is a diff thing!
Was at physio this evening & I have shin splints :( have to ice twice a day - any tips on mess free methods? and how long should I leave the ice on?
And I'm supposed to use an anti-inflammatory gel too - do I put that on straight after the ice?

I use a hot and cold pack I got at the chemist. No mess. Just wrap in a tea towel. You pop it in the freezer after every use. My Physio said to ice for 10 mins.

For a cheap and easy, no mess, reusable ice pack - buy a large pack of frozen peas or sweetcorn from the supermarket. Works a treat (just don't cook them by accident!)

Hard luck with the shin splints. Rest and ice should work a treat though. Fingers crossed ;).

I have 2 bags of frozen peas that everyone knows not to cook. I wrap them in a teatowl, feet up on a cushion so the sofa doesn't get it, pea bags on shins and then I usually put a blanket over the top because...y'know.. my legs get cold :o

Get a polystyrene cup* and fill about three quarters of the way with water & freeze. You can then use this as a handheld icing device. Once you're done pop it back in the freezer. Just peel away the top of the cup as it wears down. No muss, no fuss!

*I know these plastic cups are nasty for the environment but at least they're re-used multiple times with this method.
