Callely is showing up 1 thing. We badly need a radical overhaul of the expenses and salaries of tds, senators, public servants etc.

Brian Cowen said on the news tonight he doesn't have the power to sack him, so what power does Brian Cowen really have. Callely has really opened up a can of worms and highlighted what mugs we have been and let these so called politcians take us for a ride. but of course we will let them get away with it, as usual (Bev Copper Flyn, Michael Lowery)

I bet if the bankers and IMF wanted him sacked he'd be gone in the morning.

now here is another conundrum, our ex minister for defence, lost amoungst other things his free executive merc and driver, as he could not drive he was bumbing a lift from his fellow f.f. td n.collins,
this begs my question, if he was letting a lift up and down from limerick to dublin is he intitled to traveling expenses, if he is, should he not reimburse his driver, who then is getting more than the required expenses, are these expenses disclosed, also if he is getting a lift then he should not be getting money for getting a lift.

Through what mechanism? He cannot be sacked, persuaded to resign maybe, but not sacked.

Why can't he be sacked? Is it another job for life?

I really don't understand this lark, Cowen et al standing around wringing their hands and saying he can't be sacked.
The party has taken the whip from him and suspended him "Sorry Ivor, you're on your own mate"
It just tells you the mindset of these greedy fcukers.
They make a fortune on expenses anyway on top of their ridiculous salaries and he still put in bogey (allegedly) invoices to cream a bit more off.
If he is found to have commited fraud he should face the full penalties and not just be allowed resign and drop quietly out of sight.
If you worked in a shop and were caught with your hand in the till, you'd be (rightfully) sacked on the spot.

And hopefully you'd go to jail, too.

If he's allowed to retire with a pension at this stage it's time to arrange an accident.

If a taoisaigh can appoint him to the seanad why cant he remove him from it. I dont understand this. Is it because Ahern appointed him and is no longer leading FF?

Hiding in the "Wheres Wally?" pix, name appropriate of course

Ignoring idiots who comment "far right" because they don't even know what it means

He can't be sacked from the Seanad. He can be ejected from Fianna Fail, but the party seems to be dithering on this for some reason. Maybe he has dirt on the higher ups.

Being able to sack senators would fundamentally change the official role of the Seanad. It would more likely be closed down (which possibly should be done) than have such a measure introduced.
