Ive been on O2 contract since March on a 16gb 3GS. The plans 40e a month and has 150 mins 100 txts as well as free o2 to o2 calls and text and free voucemail and unlimited data use. Just wondering can I upgrade to the iPhone 4 and keep my existing 18 month contract that Im on now and therefore just hAve to pay the 280 or whatever it is for the iphone4 itself?

I doubt it. If you are able to upgrade, you will be signing an additional 18 month contract. Your other option is buy an iP4 direct from Apple.

According to the Mods on O2 you can stay on your old tariff if you upgrade however, if you only got the phone last March you will have to pay extra to upgrade as you are not entitled to a free upgrade yet. You only have to move to a new tariff if you sign a new contract and that's not a prerequsite when upgrading on O2.

See here and scroll down to fourth post from end

There's a tool on the O2 website that will tell you how much extra you will have to pay if you want to upgrade early.

Thanks for the help. Just out of curiosity, when should I be eligible for an upgrade?

It depends on your spend. Ring 1909 or contact a mod on the o2 forum
