I never owned one of these cheap little babies, but I've got an itch now.

Anything I should be wary of? Best place to find one?

Well worth the investment they are!

I got mine off E-bay about 2 years ago for about 25 euro with postage, not sure on the prices these days but I wouldn't imagine they are too expensive.

Some games you gotta get with them are the Card Fighter games, Capcom vs SNK, the portable Metal Slugs, Neo Pac-Man and Neo Sonic. There are many others but these are the best ones I own and can personally recomend them!

Was very impressed with the one I used at the last retro meet up. Thinking of getting one myself when I have money. The controls are excellent as well, great for the fighters that I'm sure you are interested in.

I would totally love a Neo Geo Pocket Colour they're sweet, I am mainly a hand-held gamer and have owned Sega Gamegears but I play gameboy 7 gameboy advance mainly these days.
There is always plenty of them on Ebay at reasonable prices so you're sure to find a nice one.

I picked mine up cheap in Akihabara (probably around 25 euro too) and happy with the investment. Recently got Metal Slug First Mission, which is great fun: definitely one the best portable action games I've played. Only other game I've gotten so far is Puzzle Bobble, which is same as it ever was!

It's an extremely well designed console - it is a disgrace that more designers haven't picked up on the design of the control stick particularly, which is sublime. Only problems I have with it are a loose 'memory battery' (think that's a problem my console specifically) and lack of a backlight, which is to be expected from an older portable.

So definitely go for it: at the prices you can get them for, definitely worth it.

Just to echo what others have said, it's a great little machine. Got mine recently from ebay, about €45 incl. postage from the uk, perfect condition. You can get the backup memory battery from any hardware shop if it doesn't come with one (CR2032). Sonic Adventure is class on it. Shame about the lack of a backlight but defo worth picking up.

Another nice thing about the machine is it's an easy console to get everything worth getting, only a couple are ultra expensive, the rest can be got unboxed, in blister packs for close to nothing on ebay.

Faselei is the only big rare game on the NG Pocket. Heard it'skind of dropped in price though.

Any of the european released are worth a few bob boxed.
This is because, for once, we europeans got the best packaging, a mini version of the full size NeoGeo AES boxes.
The japanese and yanks only got crappy cardboard ones, and so, when you buy online, you almost always get them unboxed.
Also perhaps worth more into the future is a complete version of Pacman, it came in a nice, albeit cardboard box, but also with a couple of plastic rings that you slot over your joystick.
    No sniggering down the back!
Basically it turned the 8-way stick on the handheld into a 4-way stick making Pacman far more authentic.

I have a Japanese plastic box for Puzzle Bobble, and it's plastic. Haven't seen the European ones, are they different?

Shame the US boxes are cardboard, but they're far better designed than, say, Gameboy ones, with a front cover you can open to reveal the game and manuals.

From reading it could be that you got a plastic box that was originally meant to be sold in Europe, then shipped back to Asia. When the NGPC flopped abroad, they brought back all stock to be reflashed for Asia.
