So ive booked in to get my turbo and dmf and a cv boot replaced. Total cost €2000.
Still driving it at the moment because neither has fully failed but my turbo is humming away and getting loader.

Just wondering has the dmf anything to do with gear change. Came to a roundabout today and went to change gear and i couldnt engage. Rolled to a stop and then forced it into first, bit of a shunt off and away it went again and changed no probs.

Same happened last week so went to an audi dealer who did the diagnostics (same one that told me i had a turbo and dmf to replace) and they said their wasent an issue with the clutch or gearbox, im just hoping its not the start of a whole new problem because anymore at this stage and i should dump it in a river

Oh i got rode sideways. Brought a mechanic with me the second time I saw it. He went under it, i told him to try and check the dmf and oil pump because they were highlighted on boards so i was happy to go with it, but ya private gives you no leg to stand on so I live and learn

Dual mass flywheels on your clutch alright...that's a bummer but shop around. You dont need to go to a main dealer for this work

Ya ive been quoted between 2 and 3k for doing both the turbo and the flywheel, 2k is the best ive got so far with a garage in cork

    +1
I seem to keep going on about him. I have been up to him a few times to get work done. Saved €€€'s in doing so. I would rate him very highly...

Tbh i think the 2k is a good quote for the work, cant imagine you'll get much better than that without going up north

Who in cork if you dont mind me asking?

    Try Cork Engine Center - 021 4354535.
I had a problem(s) with my Passat and brought it to these guys, who really know what they are doing, for a second opinion. I was really glad I did. No harm getting a quote from them either.
The Turbo for my car was €700 just for the part and I would guess the DMF for your 2.0 TDI is in or around the same price, for the part. €2k ain't that bad if you can get a warrenty.

Surprising a mechanic wouldn't spot an almost w*nked turbo unit.

Be real careful with this. If the shaft in the turbo breaks or the gap in the seal becomes wide enough it will put your oil pressure through the floor or even suck all the oil out of the engine. Sure way to wreck the motor.

Also there is a chance that engine oil from the exhaust side is running down to your cat and wrecking that aswell. Oil from the compressor side will just find its way into the intercooler, no biggie but not ideal for cooling.

I need to drive the car this weekend, is there anything i can do or regular checks i can do to keep an eye on it, obviously ill be driving easy but is this enough

The 2k quote for the works is from Audi on the South Douglas road which im fairly happy with. Can I ask or is it standard for main dealers to give a warrenty on these works

defo yeah, the turbo should have 12 months warranty, not sure about the dual mass but they will defo stand over their work

you can work out what a new engine costs and compare it with the inconvenience of not having a car for the weekend...

Why put additional stress on already damaged components risking much greater damage?

No way would I drive the car unless I knew exactly what was wrong with the turbo, knocking DMF wouldn't be too much of a problem unless it collapsed.

The dealer said the dmf was knocking and the turbo was getting noisy and that both should be replaced. its booked in for tuesday. Im going to leave it and get a train this weekend, knowing my luck it would fall to bits on the motorway

Got the dmf and turbo replaced with a main audi dealer in Cork, before this a diognostics was completed by the same garage.
Drove the car on a motorway for around 70 miles, coming off into traffic there was a horrible noise when changing gears, like a loud scraping noise, i pulled over a put it into neutral, had to force it into first gear and it shunted foward when i released the clutch, very hard to change gear from then on even though at higher speeds the scraping noise did go away.

This morning its not as bad though im hearing a weird noise when i press the clutch. its not slipping but im waiting for something to go, i have never had as much trouble with a car, its weird that the main dealer didnt notice a clutch or gearbox issue when changing the flywheel.

The new turbo is whistling very loud. embarrasing in traffic after even mild acceleration it sounds like a loud spinning wheel or fan winding down. not a nice sound or else im going mad.

As usual any help or thoughts are appreciated

    Jesus Christ !
You poor guy, first off stop driving the car and get it towed back to the garage. Get them to repair their damage to your car. Highly unlikely that the cluch disintegrated in the sapce of an hour (without tell tale signs).
DMF more than likely not replaced or fitted correctly.
Keep us posted - unfortunately for you, this is like a car soap opera.

So its going form bad to worse with this car for you.
You probably just want it fixed. Hope the garage that took it
in to do some work on it finish it the way it should be.

Sorry to hear the bad news.

IME it is unusual with these engines to have a broken DMF that does not necessitate replacing the clutch and the release bearing or vice versa. As the additional labour involved in replacing the clutch & release bearing while doing the DMF is minimal, the better independents I know of advise doing them at the same time in order to avoid having to take it all to bits a second time and / or run the risk of damaging newly replaced components with the old ones.

I get the impression that the dealer did a pretty appaling diagnostic and repair job.

next time try commonsense carparts (www.commonsensecarparts.com) for dual
mass flywheel and turbo - quote your VIN and they will get you a price - can be up to 50% cheaper than a main dealer. also good for clutch kits - all parts actually (except bodywork) - brilliant value on turbos and offer 12 month warranty.
