I got offered a place in university , I am elligable for BTEA and im curious as to how it works regarding dependants? Is it simular to FAS when they just take over all your payments including dependants instead of the Social Welfare paying me? or is it handled differnt?

It takes over from Social Welfare payment so you will still get dependants payment if you are still eligible for them. Payment will also be made into a bank account so that is handier too.
