Haven't seen a thread for this anywhere. For those that don't know - basically Universal are issuing a new remastered Bluray of Gladiator cause of the all substantial issues with the 1st version. Similar to PotC Curse of the Black Pearl, an exchange programme is being setup to honour people's original purchases. It was unclear whether or not this would apply to ireland but I received the below email today from them.

So if you want to exchange you original Bluray disc, you to do so THIS MONTH.

    squire

*Remastered* Gladiator 10th Anniversary Pics and Comparison (Dutch BD)
    Dear Customer,

Thank you for your e-mail. We would like to thank you for taking the time to write to us regarding Gladiator blu-ray.

Universal Pictures UK has been pleased with the success of Gladiator on Blu-ray, which has resulted in a high level of customer satisfaction. However, whilst there was no technical fault on the original Blu-ray master, a small number of enthusiasts have expressed a preference towards slight technical alterations. After careful consideration, we have revisited the mastering process to address those concerns.

If you wish to exchange your original UK/IRL purchased DVNR (digital video noise reduction) feature disc we ask that you send us just your disc 1 in an envelope with your name and address enclosed. Please keep your original packaging and we will post you out a new disc 1.

Please note new discs will not be available in the UK/IRL for approximately 1 month. We will ship disc back to any country as long as they were purchased from a UK retailer.

    Kind Regards

This is good to hear. I still have mine unopened on my shelf. After all the negative reviews of it, I never could bring myself to watch it.

Sweet, so we don't need a receipt or anything?

Had a quick flick through the remastered one at the weekend and it looks very much improved. Definitely worth exchanging.

anyway what was the problem with it out of interest ?
There was a lot of DNR and edge enhancement. Not quite as awful as it was made out to be, but still pretty bad. The DNR even erased some of the special effects of the arrows in the opening battle.

Has anyone got their exchanged copy of Gladiator? Is the program still running?

My exchange arrived last Tuesday. Have not sat through the whole film since, but I did pop on the disc and look through a few scenes and there does seem to be a difference in the quality.

Got my copy a few days ago. Watched the full extended cut. Looked really nice. Didn't notice any of the flaws associated with the original release.

Were you in contact with them first or did you just send it?

I take it you just put your name and address in the envelope along with the disc?

I didnt contact them beforehand. Just popped a 55c stamp ('twas all I could find) on an envelope. I put the disk in one of those paper sleeves which I wrote my name and address on.

Finally got round to watching this, wow what a transfer .. stunning quality love it.

Also the directors cut is well worth it, lots of extra scenes in it...

Yeah, the new transfer is brilliant. So much more natural looking. Every previous transfer of this film was terrible, none more so than the DVD.

However, I always remember the film as being very dull looking, even in the cinema. So they must have gone back and colour corrected the film from scratch for this new transfer (like Fincher did with Se7en), undoing whatever nasty digital grading was originally applied to the film.

I sent off for my exchange disc before Christmas and recieved it within three weeks. All in all a good offer from the film company considering the made a balls of the first disc!!!

I too am delighted with the transfer. It's absolutely beautiful now.
Think I prefer the cinematic cut to the director's cut though. The director's cut seems a tad bit signposted to me in relation to the finalé.
