Hard drive swap?

Hi, I have an intel macbook with leopard on it, I have a 2nd broken intel macbook (I think its the motherboard) which I bought for parts.

What would the issues be if I swapped the hard drives?

I have taken out the hard drive of my 1st mac and put it back in before and there was no system issues. But I thought if I put in the 2nd drive and then went back to the 1st drive there could be system issues.

Could there be OS problems when reinstalling?

Obviously I may not be able to access the 2nd drive but is it easy to wipe so I can have a spare?

Any other things I could have problems with?

    Thanks

I'm nothing even close to resembling an expert but I really can't see any problems with this.

The first one doesn't have any issues when taken out and put back in, so I can't imagine the second one having any issues either. Assuming it is a compatible drive with the functioning Macbook. And reinstalling OSX isn't supposed to pose much of a challenge, provided you have the OS DVD and the default applications DVD?

You could clone the existing current system drive onto the extra drive using Carbon Copy Cloner.

Hi, I took a risk and swapped them over and I'm getting a folder with a flashing question mark on it. I have looked it up http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570 and I will be trying these options.

    Thanks anyway.

I'd say that the OS on the old macbook is either older than the one that runs on your machine or the old machine has infact been wiped (more likely)

you would need to install OSX from a DVD on the drive for it to work with you particular computer model i think!!
If you startup from the install DVD and it shows that it can install a new systemon to the hard drive
otherwise the hard drive is damaged or the boot files are damaged and if it says you have to initialize first it will wipe all your data on the drive
