Hi there I've had ableton for about 2 months now and i'm just getting around to having a proper go at it but i'm having problems getting the latency right. I'm hearing alot of crack's & pops and no matter how much i try and tweak the latency i can't see to get rid of that cracky noise in the background. It doesn't happen all the time maybe every 30/40 seconds it does. Anyone else have or had this problem have any ideas on how to sort it out ?

Have you tried increasing the buffer size? Ctrl + , (or Cmd and , on a mac) to call up the preferences, then go to the audio tab and check the input and output buffer size. If it's a two or three figure number just increase it and see if the crackles keep happening. Put it right up to a big figure and you shouldn't get any crackles. The downside of this is you'll be increasing latency. The trick is to lower this number as you're recording (to lower latency) and increase it if you're mixing (or doing anything that doesn't involve recording).
If this doesn't help check for updates in the help menu, you may be using a version with a bug.

What interface 1st? as some have min latency of 128 via usb etc.. so you need to do other tweaks?!? also is it laptop or desktop etc.. some chipsets can be the cause of clicks too ;)
trust me ive been through it all since the 90's :D haha

ASIO drivers give the quickest times, so avoid diectx and windows wave mapper drivers
