So, just ran 5 miles last night and that was about all I could do. Is it possible that I would be able to run a 10 mile run on Saturday the 21st in the Phoenix Park?

And if so, anyone got any advice for me please? Should I run every day, every second day etc?

Load up on carbs / do leg weights?

Need some quick tips please, thanks.

Dont carb load for two weeks.
Dont do leg weights. Youre wanting to run, so to train, just run.
When you say you could only do 5 miles, why? Were you completely wrecked, did your legs hurt?

Its possible to get around the course in two weeks, if you must, I doubt youll run it all if 5 miles are a struggle now. You wont make any real fitness gains by training crazily in the two weeks before an event. You could completely tire yourself out though, so the best plan is reasonable training, nothing mad, and take the 10 miles easy on the day.

Shouldnt I be giving myself a day between each run to rest my legs?

Nah, I was wrecked last night after 2/3 miles but then got a second wind and actually felt a little bit better in miles 4/5.

Thanks for your advice - I was thinking of trying to run the whole thing if possible.

Will likely give up the booze for 2 weeks before.

No dietary advice at ll out there?

    Thanks

Im running the 10 mile myself in 2 weeks. My advice to you is to run at least 4 times a week and get up to as much mileage as you can however you dont need to do 10 miles in the training as the first mile youll be stuck behind people until further down the road. You dont need to rest your legs every second day just dont run everyday you rest twice or three times a week. To be honest if you found it very hard to do the 5 miles last night you might find it very hard to get around the course without doing some walking, ther eis nothing wrong with walking part of the race. Start off easy and try to maintain that pace. With regards to your diet I cant really comment until I know what you eat at present. Bulking up on carbs is not going to do you any good this side of a race. As long as you eat healthy most of the week you should be ok. Drink wise perhaps give it up for the next two weeks but its not necessary. I hope this helps.

    +1
keep up your regular training, don't do any mad diets, take a couple of days off before the race, and start off slowly - don't get carried away by the race and run faster than usual at the beginning.

Did the race yesterday - no bother at all. Thanks for the advice.

Going to try for the half marathon now in September.
