Life Of Running Shoes

Hey Everyone. I bought my asics running shoes about last Feb which I use about 30mins a day, 5 days a week. Lately I find they are not a 'spongy' as they used to be. Do trainers have a life span ? If so, what are Asics lifespan. If not, well, that's that :o

What I was always told was 500miles per pair or six months of training. Obviously if they are sitting in the wardrobe for 6 months then that doesn't count!

A good way of telling with asics if they are not as 'spongy' as they used to be is to look at the sides of the heel on the spongy sole section..If there is stress marking here then they are on the way out I reckon. It's like concrete (except totally different!) If it has stress marks or cracks its structural integrity is compromised (I'm no engineer but I reckon that's reasonable to assume)..

    Anyways..Hope that helps!

    Happy training..

Coming up to 1600 miles on my Asics Gel Cumulus - admittedly they're looking slightly the worse for wear :pac:

Ouch! Although, there's something very comfortable about slinging on your favourite pair of brógs..I use my older ones for grass running cos they're so comfortable and they're not under as much stress on the grass.. I love my DS Trainers for long road racing though..SO springy..

I have two or three pairs that I alternate as well so I never use the same pair two days in a row.

Yup..I hear you inthetrees..GT2140s for long heavy slow work, ds trainers for fast longs stuff, Nike Marathons for 5k & 10k roads. I have two pairs of 2140s, one old pair (for grass) and one newer pair for road. I try to get to THe States to see relatives most years so I re-stock then!

Jaysus..I'm like Elton John with all me shoes...:D

    Rehashing old threads!
For a couple of runs last week I was getting pains on the outside of my feet- last two runs the pains are travelling up my legs- I'm guessing its time to retire my runners and get a new pair.
I feel so proud to have broke my first pair of runners:D
