Most un-appreciated private sector workers?

Prompted by the Most unappreciated public service workers thread, what job do you think is the most un-appreciated in the private sector.

I'm going to go with solicitors. They have such a tough job dealing with customers for a modest salary.

And to top it all off - they don't get a word of thanks from anyone.

    What do you think?

No such thing, pretty sure most of their wages make it worth while.

I will say anyone on minimum wage with zero job security. Or people working on comission. Or anyone with performance rating playing a big part in their income. Anyone without a bullying union screaming blue murder on their behalf. Y'know that usual private sector sort of thing.

But surely when they don't get thanks from their clients they feel under-appreciated.

Property developers. They invested the shirts off their backs to build the houses & apartments that we live in, and when things went belly up, many of them lost their shirts.

Now all they get is grief. In fact, they never got thanks from anyone, even when times were good.... and remember, without them half of us would be homeless, wandering the streets like half naked pikeys, bereft of any soul.

realistically? traffic wardens. threatened and abused for merely carrying out a job designed to stop people inconveniencing other people.

ah shyte, they're public sector. bad genericguy.

    security guards then. not bouncers.

Bank workers, like the lowly cashiers you meet in a branch.
They are not called cashiers anymore though

They take abuse from the public, so do most retail staff but comments are just ridiculous.
"We own you now, do this for me now" is just a mild example
Do such muppets call up ESB and say "we own you"
"I pay your wages". Well as a customer you do, brave person to say that, you would not dare say that to a Garda!

It's not a well paid job. Full time shop assistants in a supermarket can earn more, good for them.
There was a time when it was a good job, a job in the bank was great.
Long since gone, it's no better then working in a shop.
The union IBOA isn't powerful and has never recovered from the 1992 strike, pretty useless realy.

Yes, there were mortgage rates on offer. But you pay benefit in kind tax on the difference so it's not that attractive and few enough would take that offer
You used to get free fees, now everyone gets free fees on current accounts. :)

Many, many people will jump at voluntary redundancy on offer.

Hmm... journalists? It's one of the few careers that has absolutely zero guarantee of success should you get your qualifications, it involves long hours, tons of research and it's horribly paid - in fact if you're actually getting paid then you've hit the jackpot. Yet we all devour dozens of articles every day without even thinking of it, in that sense I'd say they're unappreciated

c'monteef'uck....solicitors?? the same scheming shower of sewer rats who connived with developers and banks to rob joe soap to line their own pockets? solicitors spend the vast majority of their time coming up with ways to overcharge their clients, they're are certainly not providing charity

But think of the hours they work and the fact that they don't get any thanks from ANYONE.

    It just seems so unfair.

the thing about both these threads is this: you work, you get paid. nobody gets a shaggin medal so forget about the underappreciated ****e.

solicitors should be shot with balls of their own s'hite though - just to finish

Typical mentality tbh. As I said, the majority don't earn that much. I'm not saying there are no solicitors rolling in money etc. because there are, but they are a minority. You will also find that the vast majority are not crooks, contrary to what people like to tell themselves.

Also, for the part in bold, they actually are a lot of the time. Legal aid pays very poorly, yet the solicitor is obliged to basically work his/her socks off.

ah good old first hand evidence that solictors work is easy, can't beat it

Well a taxi driver once told me that all public sector workers are overpaid and none of them do any work, and the little bit of work they do is very very easy

My best friend's mate's girlfriend is a tightrope walker. I could do it pissed after sustaining a mild stroke and carrying four pints and a packet of Tayto.

Strangely enough a taxi driver once told me that the work he does is very easy, but all the other taxi drivers seem to disagree.

Ahh, never trust a taxi driver !!

My cousin tells me all the time how easy it is, all they do is some ****ty routine paperwork and go to the courthouse 2 or 3 times a week, then he charges the client an absolute bomb and gets a big fat paycheck each month... it really is an EASY job.

I think the most under appreciated are the workers on the minimum wage doing jobs that the Irish wouldn't do.

    Insurance workers.

Everyone hates them, but every claim they don't pay means the overall cost of policies don't rise.
