Just make sure Roaming is set to off and mobile data (cellular data) is set to off.

You can use wifi where ever you get a signal for free.

If you aren't going to use an map or sat nav apps you might as well turn location services off and you might as well turn 3G off to save on some battery life.

I with 02. I usually go into settings... Network.... Data network.... and change the apn 'internet' to any other word. That way there is no way anything can connect to data even an app doing a sneaky connect.
I can change it back if I get a wifi connection and change it back to blahhhhh when finished.

    just to reiterate

anyone on vodafone can go as far afield as kenya and use data on their phone at no charge as long as they are within their 2gb bundle :)

    Hi Irish1967,

Just a quick one , why would you need to change it back if using wifi. I didn’t think an APN had any affect on use of wifi? A couple of other questions.
    • Even if I’m not connected to wifi but wifi is turned on, does this decrease batter life?
    • Even if I’m not connected to a 3G network and only GPRS is showing but 3G is turned on does this decrease batter life?
    Regards

    1. Depends. If it's on and set to search for networks, yes, as it is constantly scanning as you move around. If it's not set to scan, it would still have an effect on battery but not very much.

    2. I wouldn't be 100% sure. I'd equate it to having parking lights on. You can barely see them but they're there but won't use as much battery as dims or full. I would again say the effect on battery would be minuscule, if any.

I too am with Vodafone and have been in Berlin and London over the last while and have left all settings as they are here and all data came out of my data add-on. I have a 1GB add with my simply plan.
