I know this might be way off but i need to know. I have one tv cable coming down to tv point from the attic. My question is can i get a guy to put a splitter or something in the attic and bring a fta system and an aerial into it so i can get rte etc.and then switch between them when needed with say a remote control. I hope you can understand that.

Sat / terrestrial combiners and splitters usually work ok as long as your cable is of an adequate quality. If it is ropey old ( usually) brown coax it will have no or poor screening and will be very lossy at satellite frequencies.

The old cable will work fine with combiners if the run is short but it would be better to run in some new cables. I would suggest three to allow one for terrestrial and two for satellite.
You might be able to use the existing cable to pull the new cables down through your wall.
